Let’s get right back to Marionetta and find out what happens next. Things are finally starting to look exciting. Is this a new conspiracy that Julia would find herself in, or is this the start of Julia finding some light in her life and finally clearing all the questions she had? And what Tonny’s next action will be, without much further ado, let’s get into Marionetta Chapter 33-40.
Marionetta Chapter 33: Utter Chaos
Marionetta Chapter 33 starts with Dotty and her husband being questioned, and their papers showing they were 55. Dotty does her best to seem natural and play the part. The military has finally realised the Ah’kon are missing. Some soldiers reported that there’s some fresh painting made near the square. The researchers still command the military to search the circus thoroughly.
Julia, on the other hand, runs to find Tonny, and Tonny finds her and asks her to hide, as he doesn’t have her documents ready. Then he notices her clothes have changed, and Julia answers, Sahed gave those to her since hers were wet, Tonny blames her for listening to the reckless Sahed. And Julia claps back as Tonny was the one who told her to trust him. She drags Tonny to where the Ah’kon are, since they were waiting, ending Marionetta Chapter 33.
Chapter 34: More Ah’kon Joining?
Marionetta Chapter 34 starts with an epic showdown between Tonny and Sahed. Then Tonny finally confesses that he didn’t bring Julia into the circus, and neither did Rainah make the pact. Sahed says that since Tonny isn’t doing a good job at saving people, he might be angry (we don’t know who he his yet). However, Tonny says more Ah’kons are just going to burden and put everyone at risk.
Sahed pleads with Tonny for Ah’kon’s sake and asks him to do things right. Julia says there is no need to kill them, but it’s irresponsible not to help them and let them go back to the research faculty. It’s fine to let them live. Tonny says it’s the deal; otherwise, what are they complaining to the government about them? Sahed asks Tonny to take a look that the Ah’kon’s have more to lose than anyone else. But as one of the Ah’kon says, he hates the place. He gets shot by the researcher who comes, ending Marionetta Chapter 34.
Marionetta Chapter 35: A Gunshot
In Marionetta Chapter 35, Dotty comes and saves them, saying she saw Tonny getting dragged by those people. The Ah’kon were caught and forced into compliance. The researcher girl said not to listen to them, they are dangerous. And they apologize for scaring them. Julia speaks up as they are leaving, shooting an unarmed person from behind is Illegal. The researcher says she is Colonel Amelia, and she is in charge of the West Wing, so she can do whatever she wants.
After they leave, Sahed comes out and talks about how Dotty could give them out. Dotty replies to save the people inside the circus, she doesn’t mind throwing a few outsiders under the bus. Sahed blames Tonny for being a coward. Tonny blames Sahed for his absurd plan that put everyone at risk. Julia says to the grieving Sahed that he will try to convince Tonny to help them, ending Marionetta Chapter 35.
Chapter 36: A Sad Parting
Marionetta Chapter 36 begins as Julia runs to convince Tonny not to leave yet and pack up the circus, but to help the Ah’kon. However, when she reaches, she overhears Tonny talking to Grandpa.
Grandpa says he had made his choice to join this circus to live longer for Helena, his love, but all he did was leave her alone in her times of need. He was having fun while Helena was out there dying. He always thought the circus was a gift, but today he feels like a prisoner here. Grandpa wanted to visit Helena’s grave up the hill, but due to the spiritual thread, he couldn’t. Grandpa asks Tonny to free him. He asks if he will meet her again after true death. Tonny replies with an affirmation, with tears in his eyes. When Tonny freed him, we see that his spirit doesn’t unite with Helena but is trapped and consumed by a spider with numerous other spirits before him.
Marionette Chapter 37: The Monster in the Attic
Marionetta Chapter 37 begins with Julia just having overheard the conversation and being unable to believe her ears. As Grandpa was clearly not thinking clearly in his grieving state. How could Tonny agree and kill him? She starts to feel that what Sahed said about Tonny was the truth, that he was dangerous and hiding secrets.
Julia felt Tonny was the puppeteer controlling everyone in the circus, either giving them eternal life or death. She saw Tonny carry the knife in a casket and keep it in a room. She hid herself when Tonny was gone. Julia went to the room to retrieve the knife but found herself in a cluttered storage room with a strange light, with stairs leading to the attic, the place where she first saw the monster. She went up the stairs and was given the casket with the knife in it, ending Marionetta Chapter 37.
Chapter 38: Julia Struggles with Truth and Deception
Marionetta Chapter 38 starts with Julia taking the knife from the monster and running down the stairs. When she reaches the end of them, she sees that the attic pathway seems to have been walled up, but now she has the knife.
Julia comes to the realization that she had forgotten about her best friend Kamille in all this fiasco. She comes to her room to find her sleeping. Julia lies awake in her bed, struggling with her inner thoughts. She wonders if she should confront Tonny or if it would be too dangerous. And she thinks she wasn’t able to do anything because she wasn’t brave enough. She wonders whom she should trust in this chaotic circus.
And amidst all, she missed her father. Julia, with tears in her eyes, starts writing a letter to him, as it might be a while before she comes back, as a lot has happened. Then she strikes off the lot has happened part. She rewrites that she is fearful. But she wrote another one where she says she will give him better news soon, that she misses him. However, she feels she can’t do this, that she doesn’t want her dad to worry, ending Marionetta Chapter 38.
Chapter 39: A New Day
Marionetta chapter 39 begins with Rainah finding Sahed sleeping on his desk among sketches of seals. Kamille brings Rainah to a river and they both drive in wearing their chemise to enjoy and feel comfortable. Tonny made a declaration that they had to leave as they caused some issues with the city’s canal system, and before they found out about they had to leave. He also mentions he had to put Grandpa down, which earns him a punch. A fellow circus goer says that he had no right to kill him before he got to say goodbye. Tonny defends himself, saying it wasn’t his choice that he can’t keep people here against their will, but that just makes the other man angrier. Tonny approaches Julia and asks if she would like to practice knife throwing with him, ending Marionetta Chapter 39.
Marionetta Chapter 40: Rainah and Kamille
Marionetta Chapter 40 starts as Julia is sweating with her hands on the knife, Tonny is against a bard and striking a pose, and Julia has to throw it without hitting him. She gets a flashback of the knife Tonny used to kill Grandpa. It prompts her to drop the play knife and run away, saying sorry, but she can’t do that.
Julia feels overwhelmed and scared, and she feels she needs someone to talk to. She finds herself on the way to Sahed’s place, where Rainah intercepts her and says Sahed is in his room. Rainah wonders if they are having a romance or planning another nationwide crime or both. Julia wonders how Rainah can be so cheery even after what happened last night. Then she feels Rainah stole her friend Kamille, and when Rainah asks if Julia is ok, she shouts at her to leave her alone. And in a way, it creates another misunderstanding by telling her that Kamille was getting friendly with Rainah to get close to Sahed.
Julia barges into Sahed’s room to find him stabbing a knife into him. Shfreaks out as Sahed drops in pain. Julia grabs the knife handle and takes it out of Sahed’s chest. Sahed explains to Julia how the seals of magic work by calling out the spirit and taking the energy from elsewhere. Julia tells Sahed she knows how to kill Tonny, she has the knife.
