While Zero’s opinion about knowledge and power pissed off Duo and his team, his real intention truly came through. He just wants the best to thrive and have access to resources of knowledge. And he wants the best to be on his side, so he proposes that Lily join him. Throughout Duo Leveling Chapter 5, he tries to convince Lily, and at the end of the chapter, we realize why Lily shines through as the main character of Duo Leveling webtoon!
Duo Leveling Chapter 5: Lily Joins Zero
Duo Leveling Chapter 5 begins with Zero convincing Lily, “Don’t you see? Your friends are holding you back! They’re all just parasites riding your coattails. But it doesn’t have to be that way…I’ve been studying you…You’re different, special, like me.” Duo immediately reacts, “She’s nothing like you, monster!” Throwing a block of ice to shut him up, Zero warns with a loud silence. Much better. Know your place, riff-raff. Lily doesn’t stop; she asks, what does he mean by studying her? To show a vision of her potential, Zero creates an illusion where Lily is sitting on a throne with a deadly but somehow attractive (?) crown. He comes close to her face and asks if she will join him willingly or if she needs some more convincing.
Seeing the illusion, Oscar immediately says, Oh, it’s so over! She looks amazing in purple; she can totally pull off the villain aesthetic. And with that, Lily says, “Okay, I’ll join you.” Shocked, Zero asks if she is being honest. Lily shrugs and says she doesn’t have much leverage here anyway. Meanwhile, Zari is shocked. Lily continues, “I’ll become your evil protégé under one condition. Weak as they may be, I still care for these guys. Free them, and I’ll join you without protest.” With that, she puts her hand forward to consider this a deal. “You let these inconsequential pawns go, and we start rebuilding the world together?”
Ending: Lily Traps Zero
Immediately, Zero shakes her hand. However, he thought he caught her act and says, he doesn’t buy her acting, and he doesn’t have to let go of these idiots to keep her in check. He says no one has the courage to stand against him, and no one will get out of here as long as he is standing, and bam, Checkmate! Ability Activated: Capture – Make physical contact with an enemy to trap them. Lily says, “You’re wrong about everything. Everyone deserves to learn, flawed or not. I’ve made countless mistakes on my way to the top, and I’m better for it. We’re stronger because we have each other, not despite it!”
Grudingly, Zero says, he will return and turns into a chess piece. At this point, everyone has tears in their eyes, and they group hug each other. Suddenly, the chess piece starts moving, and Zero orders in the air that no one is escaping, and a massive ice structure of monsters stands in front of the team. When they felt lost, Zari activates her Fermata power (Time holds until the conductor releases it!) and with that, the team escapes the portal. Lily waits for Zari to cross through the portal first, then she follows, ending Duo Leveling Chapter 5.
