A Spell for a Smith Chapter 31-38 follows Ivy’s and Brahm’s newfound relationship. The two tread lightly over each other, careful to not scare the other away. However, they get into an argument and are terrified of losing the other. Unable to bear the distance, the two meet and talk it out, resulting in a stronger bond. A Spell for a Smith Chapter 31: Flirting
In A Spell for a Smith Chapter 31, Ivy goes into town to visit Brahm. As she walks, a group of guys whisper about her and one of them bumps into her, earning praise from his friends. Pushing away dark thoughts she heads to the forge. Brahm, delighted to see her, invites her in. He apologizes for not coming over having had work to complete and hates that she troubled herself by coming to town. Fiddling, she says despite not liking the town much, it’s different now, since she has someone. Blushing, he comments on how she knows to tongue-tie a man and offers her tea.
The next scene shows Ivy asking to see Brahm’s work. Surprised, he says it’s not as interesting as magic and that she might be disappointed. Reaching out a hand, she assures him his work is amazing. He shows his latest sketch of the work he has to do, making Ivy call him a man of many talents. Teasing, she asks him what else he excels at, at which Brahm looks at her slyly and says, “You’ll have to wait and see”. Effectively flustering her, he turns and is shocked to see the sun almost setting. Ivy apologizes for taking too much of his time and he assures her it’s never an issue. Fastening her cloak on for her, he sends her off.
Reaching home, Ivy apologizes to her cat for being gone so long. As she tries to unfasten her cloak, she feels something metal. Surprised, she looks at her cloak to see it fastened by a chain with a leaf on each end. She runs to the mirror and admires it before yelling, “TWO CAN PLAY AT THAT GAME, BRAHM” thereby concluding A Spell for a Smith Chapter 31.
Chapter 32: Brahm’s Despair
A Spell for a Smith Chapter 32 opens with Ivy worriedly looking at Brahm, who has a bandaged hand. Nervous, she asks if she can check his burns and see if it’s healing. When he says it’s fine she insists, saying she just asked to be polite. He agrees and she slowly takes off the bandage to find awful burns, shocked she scolds him for not treating it properly. She drags him to a table and as she fixes her hand, she watches him, looking sad and distracted. Not knowing what to say, she suddenly hugs him tight, surprising him and he hugs her back.
The next scene shows Brahm back at his home, despairing. He thinks to himself today is the anniversary, he thinks of bloodshed and how, since he was so happy these days, the despair that never leaves hit him hard. He got used to the lightness of his burden that he fell under it when it hit again. Deciding to work, he reaches out a hand and sees the bandage.
Brahm thinks of Ivy, and how she held onto him when he thought he was drowning. He feels better at the thought of her kind face and how she knew something was wrong. A Spell for a Smith Chapter 32 ends with him deciding to go to bed after all.
A Spell for a Smith Chapter 33: Ivy Meets Jon and Thom
In A Spell for a Smith Chapter 33, Ivy nervously rambles as Brahm ties her hair. She worries about meeting Jon and Thom and Brahm assures her they are even more nervous than her. Done with her hair, she assures them they can leave any time she wants and that they are nice people. Cupping his cheek, she thanks him for going to such an extent for her and he lightly kisses her hand.
The next scene shows the two entering the bar, Brahm holding Ivy’s hand. Jon and Thom nervously greet her, glad she came. Brahm introduces the married couple, and they invite her to the table. They say they rarely have a lady around and that Thom made it a bit extravagant. He says Brahm is lovely but always a grump, making her laugh. Annoyed, Brahm suggests starting dinner.
After dinner, Thom and Brahm go inside to get dessert, leaving Ivy and Jon alone. In their wake, he apologizes to her, saying he has seen her being mistreated by many and not doing anything. Smiling, she says it would have been nice to have a friend back then but says she wasn’t exactly approachable. She assures him she could never hold that against him. They get more comfortable and Brahm smiles, seeing them talking, concluding A Spell for a Smith Chapter 33.
Chapter 34: Proper Introduction
A Spell for a Smith Chapter 34 opens with Ivy doing her routine deliveries, no longer cowering in a hood. Happy to find she is done with her deliveries, she heads to the forge to meet Brahm. Delighted to see her, Brahm says he planned to come over. She says she just dropped by to give him a delivery and hands him enchantments and potions. He thanks her profusely, offering her tea. She tells him she has to head home soon since she has work to do. At that, he is about to give her a “parting gift”, but gets interrupted by a customer.
The customer enters the forge, not noticing Ivy, and asks him about his order. He suddenly stops when she sees her but Brahm casually asks if he’s met Ivy yet. Awkward, he says not officially met her and looks over. She avoids eye contact as Brahm introduces the two. He hands the customer his order and he leaves, saying goodbye to Ivy too. Shocked, Ivy brightens up and turns to Brahm, shocked that the villager was actually nice to her. Laughing, Brahm says they just need a proper introduction. He hands her a parting gift and sends her off.
A Threat?
By Brahm’s forge, the guy who bumped into her before, watches her go and smugly walks towards Brahm. His tone immediately annoys Brahm, making him take a defensive stance. The guy asks if Ivy and Brahm are a thing now. Clenching his hammer tight, the dwarf says orders are to be given in the front. Looking around, he says he’s a hunter and talks about venturing into the forest for goods. At that, Brahm throws a knife, missing the stranger’s hand by an inch, and warns him to get out. Leaving, for now, the guy says he will be seeing Brahm again, concluding A Spell for a Smith Chapter 34.
A Spell for a Smith Chapter 35: Lashing Out
A Spell for a Smith Chapter 35 opens with Ivy trying a new potion. She pours it into the ground, resulting in a growing vine, using her magic to control its growth. She jumps when she hears Brahm call out to her. Panicking, she awaits his response. Tears fill her eyes when he says she’s incredible. Brahm admires her work as she says she’s been working on it for years. He thinks to himself how wonderful she is and is yet forced to hide. He tells her she is too good for this village and that, with her skills, she would be valued and respected in other places. Saying if she just becomes braver he could get her out of here and help her settle into a better place. At her silence, he looks over and sees her trembling. Slowly, walking over to her, he asks if she’s alright.
Crying, Ivy asks Brahm if he has any idea how brave she has to be every day just to step out. Shocked, he tries to explain but she goes on about struggling in the wretched village all by herself for the last ten years. Thinking of the villagers, she says she knows people hate her because of their shame and failures. She says she tried her best to keep living and build her own life. Hugging herself she says it never was enough for her. Brahm tries to calm her down as she breaks down. Panicking, she walks away, saying she needs time to herself. He tries to stop her and panics when she disappears. A Spell for a Smith Chapter 35 ends with Brahm calling out to her.
Chapter 36: Regrets
In A Spell for a Smith Chapter 36, Ivy lies down, assuring Thistle she’s fine and that she just needs rest. She looks at the hair bands and knows that he is right. Just then Thistle fiddles with them and she quickly takes them away, saying they are the most special things she owns. Meanwhile, back at the forge, Brahm is at work, clanging the metal harder than needed. He hates himself for being harsh on her and choosing the wrong words. Dropping his hammer, he despises the fact that he hurt her. Looking out of the forge, he sees a couple and imagines himself and Ivy as them. Deciding, he takes up his coat and heads off, concluding A Spell for a Smith Chapter 36.
A Spell for a Smith Chapter 37: First Kiss
A Spell for a Smith Chapter 37 opens with Ivy having to forage but not being in the mood. She rubs her head, regretting lashing out at him. Knowing he’s right, she thinks of how she ruined what she had. It starts raining suddenly, and Ivy, half-mindedly, gets up and walks. Midway, she realizes she’s on the path to town and turns away, thinking she should just head home. Pausing, she feels conflicted, wanting to see Brahm. However, she fears he is too upset with her. Falling to the ground, she tries to get her thoughts right, knowing she needs him and hating that she will lose him. Just then, she hears footsteps in the mud and looks up to see Brahm.
Brahm sees Ivy on the ground and takes long determined strides towards her. They both reach out to each other and kiss fleetingly. Breaking away, their voices overlap with apologies and she says she was terrified of losing him. He assures her she can’t get rid of him that easily and asserts he’ll be lost if he ever loses her. A Spell for a Smith Chapter 37 ends with him lifting her chin and kissing her deeper yet again.
Chapter 38: Deserving
A Spell for a Smith Chapter 38 opens with Brahm wondering if he deserves this carefreeness. He struggles to catch up with Ivy as she takes his hand and runs through the woods. Deciding that he doesn’t care if he deserves it or not, he enjoys their joy. She leads him into her home, laughing at how drenched they are. He suggests starting a fire when she pulls him close and kisses him again. He shudders at her touch and she quickly pulls away, thinking he’s freezing, and says they should get out of their wet clothes. Turning their backs to each other, they change clothes and he catches a glimpse of the tattoo on her back.
Tattoos
The next scene shows the two by the fire, covered in blankets and talking about traveling. Ivy asks if Brahm got the tattoo on his arm from one of his journeys at which he says it’s an unpleasant past. He, in turn, asks about her tattoo, making her note that he peeked. Blushing, he says it was accidental and asks to see it. She slowly turns around and lowers the blanket. He softly brushes his hand over it, admiring the beauty of it, and asks what it is.
Ivy explains it’s her witch’s mark and that they help to concentrate their spells. She says her mother had tattooed it for her and said they gave them her powers. Fiddling, she says he’s the first person to see it. As he runs his hand along her tattoo, he says she turns red all over when she blushes. Ivy turns at that, watching him and slowly leaning in. At that moment, Thistle pops up in the middle making two jump away. A Spell for a Smith Chapter 38 ends with the two getting up and away from each other, suddenly finding something to attend to.
