Meet Ivy And Brahm
A Spell for a Smith Chapter 1: A Bumpy Meeting

In A Spell for a Smith Chapter 1, Ivy returns to her home in the woods after foraging for herbs. At home, she gets to work on her potions for the people of the village. Done with the work, she dreads going to the town and handing over these potions. She looks for excuses to back out till she realizes she has to go to town no matter what. As she steps out of her home, she unwantedly recalls the townspeople throwing rocks at her. Shaking her head and determined, she goes off.
In the town, Ivy is surrounded by whispers, murmurs, and glares. Rushing to the shop and closing the door, she reminds herself to keep her head down and get the work done already. Meanwhile, a dwarf blacksmith is unloading his firewood and realizing he has to get more soon. At that moment, he hears someone pass a comment about him and gets annoyed. He turns away and as he enters the shop, bumps into her. Stumbling back on impact, Ivy bumps into another person who shoves her away roughly, causing her to crash into a cabbage truck. Shocked at the people’s reaction, he tries to help her but the owner yells at her as she runs away, apologizing and crying. A Spell for a Smith Chapter 1 ends with him looking as she dashes off.
Chapter 2: Different

A Spell for a Smith Chapter 2 opens with Ivy running into the woods, hoping no one follows. Ivy stops and curses herself for thinking people might have changed. She storms off into the house, eyes still brimming. Sitting outside, she misses her mother who would’ve known exactly what to say to comfort her. The scene shifts to Brahm at the shed, working on a sword, thinking of Ivy and people’s cruelty. At that moment, a passerby whispers loudly about seeing a “real dwarf”. Annoyed, he leaves the weapon and heads to his shop.
Brahm tells his assistant, Jon, about their cruel pack mentality. Jon sympathizes and suggests he could be a well-known dwarf blacksmith and it would be good for business. He walks away as Jon suggests a drink later that evening. At home, he feels distracted and uneasy. Jon pops in, asking if he wants to join them, and the dwarf declines. In his wake, Brahm sets to polishing a shield, thinking work would set his mind at ease. Done with it, he admires his work but sees his reflection staring back at him. Wishing he was not different, he realizes he won’t get any sleep at all, concluding A Spell for a Smith Chapter 2.
A Spell for a Smith Chapter 3: Sweet Mornings

A Spell for a Smith Chapter 3 opens with Brahm waking up early and going to the woods for firewood. There, he hears a noise and quickly hides, peeking to find Ivy, walking in the woods and carefree. Stunned by how lovely she looks, he wonders if he should go over. Deciding it’s better to let her be, he returns, thinking how great early mornings are.
Ivy on the other hand is enjoying the mornings, remembering her mother who used to love them. Suddenly, a bush rustles and a cat jumps out from it. Already in love, she tries to coax the cat who immediately falls on its back adorably. It dashes off, pausing every few steps, playing with her till she reaches it. She pets the cat before it walks off again. Laughing, Ivy follows it till she sees Brahm. She freezes in her tracks, terrified and recalling what people call her. Smiling, he wishes her a good morning, which shocks her.
Awkward, Brahm explains he was collecting firewood and introduces himself. Stunned, Ivy barely whispers her name. Kindly, he says it’s a pleasure to meet her and she replies, “You too”, all flustered. He goes off saying he has to get back and invites her to drop by the forge sometime. A Spell for a Smith Chapter 3 ends as she watches him go, smiling.
Chapter 4: A Broken Roof

A Spell for a Smith Chapter 4 opens with Ivy examining her destroyed roof the next day and wondering how to fix it. Adamant not to ask for help, she tries to fix it herself. Trying multiple times, she realizes she will have to go to the town for help. She goes to the forge and sees Brahm, who is delighted to see her. Shocked yet again by his kindness, she asks him for tools to repair her roof which was destroyed by the previous night’s storm. As she says, Brahm thinks of how carefree she was in the woods and how different she is now.
Brahm tells Ivy it’s better to have someone come over and mend it which she strongly says no to. Scratching his beard, he says he’ll get the tools for her, and so A Spell for a Smith Chapter 4 ends.
A Spell for a Smith Chapter 5: An Unaffordable Luxury

In A Spell for a Smith Chapter 5, Ivy carries the heavy bundle of tools to her home. Dropping it by her front door, she fights for breath. She recalls how Brahm had explained to her what to do and did not even take any payment. He asks her if she can carry it by herself and offers to help but she politely declines. Thanking him sincerely, she leaves with the heavy bundle.
Now, Ivy goes into the house and gets changed. Readying herself, she sets to work on the roof. As she is almost done, she thinks to herself it better be watertight and cries at how hard it is. She says sarcastically she could have just called a stranger and had Brahm repaired. Eyes watering, she exclaims how it’s a luxury to get someone to help her and stop this isolation. Despairing, she thinks to herself none of the villagers would come to help her even if their lives depended on it. Realizing this, she notes the blacksmith is a very kind person. Rubbing her eyes she reasons that she has the right to sulk and that the blacksmith got to her with his kindness.
Ivy thinks of Brahm’s eyes and finds herself blushing. Catching herself, she quickly rids himself of those thoughts. Eyeing her work, she feels proud and gets back down, concluding A Spell for a Smith Chapter 5.

Meanwhile, Ivy is foraging and making sure she doesn’t get too close to town. She hears the sound of a carriage and quickly hides, praying no one saw her. In A Spell for a Smith Chapter 7 Brahm is at the city and realizes Jon might be right and that he needs a change. Done with the work, he is excited to return early. As he loads the carriage, he sees another dwarf. Freezing in his tracks, he thinks he hasn’t seen him for the last seven years. He walks away, hating that he’s a coward and haunted by the way Thraev looks at him. Drinking away his sorrows, he thinks of the past, of swords and bloodshed, of the way he ran away. He is brought to the present by the bartender worriedly saying he’s had enough for a day.
Walking away, Brahm goes to the shed and talks to his horse, Feldspar. Running his hand over its mane, he suggests heading back home. As he rides, he hates how heavy he feels, of being so angry and ashamed. Just as he thinks he does not want to live this way anymore, the carriage slips off a cliff.
