Everything in the penthouse is now a sunk cost (he insists) before walking out of the room. Davina knows better than he’s not one to let things go. Not when it involves Mikey and when it matters.
As she walks through the garden with Mikey running around beside her, Davina thinks of the risks. If the intruders turn on her backup laptop, it might ping her server and maybe even give her a chance to track it. It’s a risk to her data, to her safety… but if it mattered to Gabriel, maybe it was a risk worth taking.

The evening arrives. Inside Mikey’s room, Davina is helping him paint by holding the lamp just right so his little bird sketch has the perfect sad shadows (that 4-year-old got good taste). He demands more shadows, and she follows his commands teasingly. But when Davina notices Gabriele watching them from the hallway, she excuses herself quietly and locks the door behind her.
Davina and Gabriele stand alone under dim lit hallway. The silence between them is thick and familiar in a strange way. He speaks her name, ‘Davina…’ but Davina gets flustered and asks if he needs anything. But his reply was different. He pulls her closer with their foreheads touching and speaks breathlessly, “I want your secrets, Davina. All of them. But I want them from your lips.” Davina’s heart skipped a beat, and her thoughts spiraled. If he knew the truth, if he knew her secrets… he’d own her. And worse than that, once he finds out how she had lied… he will never trust her again. She places a finger on his lips. “I can’t tell you mine before I know yours.” He pulls back and says quietly, “As I feared…we really are the same.”
And then, the stillness – a breath, a pause. A moment neither of them dares break. Because if neither of them can be the first to trust… then it was over before it even began. (It was supposed to be a soft moment… but somehow, it shattered my heart instead.)
