Levi, always so calm in the middle of everything, just gives her a hug and softly says, “It’s Ok, these things happen….” And that’s when he drops the big news—it might be best for them to press pause. Just a choice to pause their relationship and spend time figuring out what they want. They decide to remain friends and hug one more time, as one thing ends and another could begin.
Later, Levi steps away from them, watching Eli and Leif’s friends dance and laugh. Her smile is real, and it brings him a sense of calm. He’s glad her night turned out fine, even though his feelings are mixed. He walks over to Marco, who’s sipping his drink and full of awkward thoughts. Levi tells me in a casual way, “I broke up with Eliana.” Marco feels he is about to choke. Levi, as always, gently tells him to give Eli some time before making a move. Eli, by accident, is listening from the lockers when he hears what everyone is saying. Amy, with tears running down her face, accuses Levi of never caring for her. Levi, calm but in charge, points out that Amy wanted him for her popularity, but Marco never did anything dishonest. Levi admits that always having to follow Amy’s feelings made his life very tiring.

The Dickheads Chapter 54 starts with Levi finally coming clean to Eli about how he and Amy got together—and it’s not the love story everyone envisioned. It all began during the game of football in Levi’s freshman year when Nancy and Levi first met. Before they knew it, the two friend groups came together. Amy was the bright center of attention, and Levi met her. Nancy was never with Amy’s crew per se, because Nancy’s crew was loud, sparkly, and colorful. No matter how much Nancy tried, she didn’t fit in, but even so, Nancy always stuck with Amy.
Eli, always the detective, squints and casually drops, “I’m pretty sure Nancy has feelings for Amy.”
Levi bristles. Wait. What? He laughs it off initially, but then hesitates. Wait. It was sort of obvious, wasn’t it?
He confesses he always figured Nancy was crushing on him. Each time he attempted to exit the friend circle, Nancy guilt-tripped him back into it. At one point, even pleaded with him not to leave—and somehow that morphed into Levi agreeing to date Amy. He still can’t figure out why Amy went along if it was simply for social status.
Eli gently suggests that maybe Amy did like him, in her own complicated way. Then, she slyly asks how Marco fits into all this. Levi says Marco came before Amy. If Eli’s going to date him, she better hear Marco’s take on the story, too. Eli nods, she’s intrigued but not willing to jump in just yet. He pauses and considers sending Eli a text. Before he can think too hard about it, however, Eli sends a message to the group chat asking what they’d like to plan for their hangout. Levi, being the golden retriever of the group, answers instantly that he is up for anything

He sits there staring at the screen, hoping his idea doesn’t make it look like he’s overthinking things. Right when he feels like he’s losing it, his mom comes in and looks at the mess. But his dad nudges him gently: “Tell me, what’s up?” The Dickheads Chapter 56 concludes with walls of emotion fissuring slightly, as Levi readies himself to open up—not only to his friends, but perhaps at last to his father as well.
The Dickheads Chapter 57: Skate, Sushi and Third-Wheeling
The Dickheads Chapter 57 begins with Levi suiting up for a casual hangout that somehow feels like prepping for emotional battle. Levi’s dad convinced him to go skating instead of the movies—because he (half-jokingly) thought Levi would start crying if he had to go to a movie with them. Fair.
Levi makes sure he’s not between Marco and Eli, and then he joins them, resulting in the three of them bumping into each other and laughing like wobbly penguins on wheeled skates. Eli makes fun of Levi’s skating abilities, but it’s all meant kindly.
Marco and Levi are left alone after Eli leaves to talk to Leif. Levi asks Marco if he asked Eli out during Thanksgiving in a casual way. Marco admits it, but he never made it official. He’s worried about making the same mistakes Levi made. Levi, being his usual self, teases Levi and suggests he stop being so careful and let it all out—but Eli comes back, and the moment ends.
