Once inside, the atmosphere between they are awkward. Jia asks how he found her, to which Mincheol replies that Jimin called him. Frustrated, Jia curses Jimin, even as she recognizes her sister did the right thing. As she vents her frustrations to Mincheol, he reminds her that, as per their agreement, they need to communicate to resolve their issues, which only angers Jia more.
Mincheol questions why she is so upset, and Jia realizes her disappointment stems from expecting something romantic after their kiss, while he appears indifferent to the moment. Annoyed by his density, she is taken aback when Yunjie notices her frustration and offers her ice cream to help her calm down. This gesture helps Jia see that it was just one kiss and her upset feelings were unwarranted. Maybe Meant To Be Chapter 16 opens with Mincheol sharing with his friend Sang-U that his first kiss actually happened near his sister-in-law’s house. He’s anxious that others will believe his childhood story about kissing in kindergarten, which he had lied about. Sang-U listens calmly at first, but then he bursts out in frustration over Mincheol’s worries about such trivial matters. He reminds Mincheol that everything went downhill after their house party. Just then, Mincheol spots Suyeon by the vending machine, and both he and Sang-U watch as she becomes awkward and hurriedly leaves the area. Confused by the interaction, Mincheol wonders what just happened.
In the next scene, we learn more about Choi Sang-U. Beneath his exterior, he is an introvert with three older sisters, and living with them has turned him into an expert at reading women’s cues. Over time, he started helping boys with their girl problems, earning himself the reputation of a love mentor. However, irony strikes as Sang-U finds himself without a girlfriend.
When he unexpectedly found himself sharing a bed with Suyeon, he felt completely flustered. To his surprise, she later apologized, a puzzling turn of events for him. Sang-U recounts that he met Suyeon in college, where she had quite a temper. As they’ve matured into adults, they both choose to forget their night together, but doing so proves easier said than done, as they grow increasingly nervous around one another. Sang-U struggles to understand why Suyeon apologized that day, and Maybe Meant To Be Chapter 16 concludes with him mustering the courage to call her.
