Maru Is A Puppy Chapter 1: Choi Woori
Choi Woori (Maru Is A Puppy Chapter 1)

Maru Is A Puppy Chapter 1 opens with a lonely woman who finds solace in her puppy. One night, she makes a wish upon a shooting star, hoping for companionship. To her surprise, her dog transforms into a man. The scene shifts to Choi Woori, a young woman, who is baffled by the absurd trailer of a series. She glances at her five-year-old brown poodle mix, Maru, and reflects on her loneliness. Woori muses about what it would be like if Maru could become human.

Suddenly, the doorbell rings, startling both Woori and Maru. Woori opens the door to find a tired-looking man, her downstairs neighbor. With a classic K-drama moment, she wonders what he might want. To her shock, he asks her to control her barking dog, claiming it barks all day and has worn him out. Woori, surprised, defends Maru. The two argue, and the man warns her that if it continues, he will take action. Stunned by the confrontation, Woori returns inside, only to receive a call from her mom. Her mom simply asks if she’ll attend her sister’s birthday party, accepts her “no” without further discussion, and hangs up. Frustrated by her mother’s lack of concern, Woori wishes someone would care for her.

<yoastmark class=

Maru Is A Puppy Chapter 2 begins with Woori panicking, convinced that her dog, Maru, has turned into a human. As Maru innocently asks if they are going for their daily evening walk, Woori hesitates but eventually agrees, motivated by Maru’s sad expression.

As they stroll through the neighborhood, Woori feels a sense of relaxation, enjoying the peacefulness of the walk. However, Maru, now curious about the world as a human, begins to collect all sorts of strange items. This behavior frustrates Woori and her irritation peaks when she catches Maru hiding something behind her back. To her shock, Woori discovers that Maru has snatched a wig straight from a passing man’s head.

Realizing the man is getting on a bus completely unaware of his missing wig, Woori and Maru sprint after him, realizing that chasing down a man is much more challenging than simply walking a dog. Despite the chaotic adventure, Maru smiles and expresses her enjoyment of the day, which brings her happiness too. However, she quickly feels a twinge of fear when Maru suggests they should do this again.

Maru Is A Puppy Chapter 3: New Playmate

<yoastmark class=

Maru Is A Puppy Chapter 3 opens with Woori stepping outside to find a young boy waiting. He introduces himself as Lim Seoyul and asks Woori to call a number on his ID. When she dials the number, the person on the other end sounds panicked yet relieved and assures her that they will come soon. Woori tells Seoyul that his mother will be there shortly.

As they wait, Seoyul tries to introduce himself to Maru, but she remains wary. To break the tension, Seoyul pulls out his toys and shows them to Maru. She responds by showing off her worn-out dog toys. Woori quickly intervenes, and they play doctor, with Seoyul taking on the role of the doctor and Woori pretending to be the patient. When Seoyul asks Maru to join as the doctor, she surprises them both by playing a veterinary doctor, leaving Woori and Seoyul flabbergasted.

Feeling a bit down, Maru notices Woori’s lack of enthusiasm for her role. To lift her spirits, Woori brings out snacks for the kids. Maru eagerly approaches the strawberry cake but tries to eat it like a dog, prompting Woori to remind her politely to use a fork. Maru’s confusion fades when Seoyul steps in to teach her how to use it. However, when she tries, the cake falls off her plate, leaving her upset. Seoyul quickly shares a piece of his cake with her, and they happily enjoy it together, sealing the beginning of their friendship.

At that moment, Woori receives a text from Seoyul’s guardian asking for her address. When she opens the door, she is taken aback to find the man who had previously complained about her dog barking standing there, concluding Maru Is A Puppy Chapter 3.

Maru Is A Puppy Chapter 4 begins with Woori feeling anxious, and worried that a man is back to confront her. To her surprise, Seoyul rushes to him. The man’s name is Junho and he reveals that he is Seoyul’s cousin. He quickly tells Seoyul to say goodbye to Maru, who waves back, while Woori sighs and bids them farewell.

As Woori heads back inside, she notices that Maru has the toy dinosaur. Maru claims that Seoyul lent it to her, but when she tries to make it move, it doesn’t work. Woori decides to get some batteries but gets distracted by a phone call. Maru then remembers their downstairs neighbor and looks out the window. Meanwhile, in the apartment below, Seoyul’s mom has come to pick him up. As he turns, he gets a shock seeing the toy dinosaur hanging out of the window. Realizing it doesn’t have batteries, he decides to put batteries in it as a thank you. He hangs it back up, and Maru is thrilled when she sees it working and plays with it.

After a while, Maru grows tired and spots a juice box. Unable to drink from it, she hangs it out the window again. Junho is stunned but puts a straw in it before hanging it back. Maru happily drinks from the juice box, and Woori, asks how she managed. Maru demonstrates, but Woori gets frustrated and rushes downstairs to apologize. Woori is surprised to find he isn’t annoyed by Maru’s antics. They find themselves arguing again, with Junho complaining about not being able to sleep because of the dog, and Woori countering that it isn’t her dog, ending Maru Is A Puppy Chapter 4.

Maru Is A Puppy Chapter 5 opens with Junho struggling to sleep due to loud barking outside his apartment. Woori reassures him that it’s not their dog, Maru, causing the noise, but Junho, frustrated, rushes outside anyway. When the barking stops, he feels like he has lost his chance to catch the culprit. Sympathetically, Woori notices how tired he is.

Meanwhile, Maru discovers a ball nearby and trots over to show it to Woori. Curious, she tries to take it from Maru’s mouth, but the dog playfully refuses. After a bit of a struggle, Woori finally succeeds and realizes it’s a dog toy. Junho questions how they can track the culprit with just a ball, prompting Woori to remember that Maru has an excellent sense of smell. This revelation surprises Junho.

Encouraged, Woori asks Maru to sniff the ball and lead the way. As they walk down the street, Woori marvels at Maru’s abilities, though Junho jokingly comments that Maru is more dog than genius. Their progress halts when Maru becomes distracted by the tempting scents from a nearby snack cart. Woori becomes annoyed, urging Maru to focus, but the dog is too fascinated by the delicious aromas.

Frustrated, Junho declares that they should give up and head home. Maru, sensing the situation, thinks about how Junho doesn’t help with her toys, won’t open her juice box, and won’t get to see Seoyul if he moves away. Determined, Maru follows her instincts and leads Woori, with Junho following, to Chorongsan Park. As they arrive, Junho suddenly hears the familiar barking again and turns to see something shocking, concluding Maru Is A Puppy Chapter 5.

Maru Is A Puppy Chapter 6 opens with the sound of an old man barking like a dog from their apartment. Baek Manse, the eccentric elder, is enthusiastically practicing his unique health routine called Holistic Barking. Junho, baffled and annoyed, begs him to stop. Moments later, Manse apologizes for the disturbance.

After a recent health checkup, Manse had been advised by his doctors, but he had trouble understanding it all. Meanwhile, Maru has been busy charming the local older residents, earning herself a stash of snacks in the process. Manse apologizes again and promises not to disturb anyone in the future, but then unexpectedly dashes off like a tiger—a quirky part of his health regimen. The encounter leaves both Junho and Woori feeling odd.

Maru proudly displays the snacks she collected from the neighbors, and Junho thanks her for her help. She hands him a juice box, offering another for Woori. As he gives Woori her juice box, Junho apologizes for the earlier misunderstanding. Woori accepts his apology, and just like that, he puts the barking issue to rest. They all feel a sense of camaraderie, having made new friends in Lim Seoyul and Lim Junho.

In a different scene, Baek Manse is shown practicing Holistic Barking in the mountains, feeling energized by the fresh air. Meanwhile, Maru and Seoyul play a phone game using paper cups. Woori, watching them, feels a twinge of caution about their conversation. Suddenly, Maru’s cup falls, prompting Seoyul to head upstairs to retrieve it. But as he moves, he accidentally crashes into someone, causing Woori and Maru to rush over, only to be met by a very intimidating lady. Maru Is A Puppy Chapter 6 takes a surprising turn as the scary woman unexpectedly hugs Maru.

Maru Is A Puppy Chapter 7 introduces a new character, Hwang Sunjeong, who steps into her role as the new kindergarten teacher. However, her first day is met with unexpected chaos as all the kids burst into tears at the sight of her face. Back at Woori’s apartment, Sunjeong shares her distress about making twenty children cry on her first day. Despite the rough start, she finds a glimmer of hope in Maru, who reacts differently and seems warm towards her. Woori, aware that Maru is wary of Sunjeong, watches the interaction with skepticism.

Determined to win over Maru, Sunjeong asks to practice with him, and Woori reluctantly agrees. The next scene finds Sunjeong and Maru together, but the atmosphere is tense and awkward. Trying to break the ice, Sunjeong pulls out her secret weapon: a lion hand puppet. Intrigued, Maru’s eyes light up, bringing a smile to Sunjeong’s face. However, the moment turns chaotic when Maru suddenly chomps on the puppet and starts acting like a dog, much to Sunjeong’s dismay.

As the lion puppet is quickly ruined, Sunjeong retrieves another hand puppet, but Maru does the same thing again, much to Woori’s amusement as she links the situation to a dog training session. This time, however, Sunjeong firmly reprimands Maru, causing her to stop and grow quiet. Sadness washes over her as she realizes that Maru might also fear her. Feeling defeated, she decides to leave the apartment. Just as she steps outside, she is unexpectedly hit by a paper cup that Maru had tossed, concluding Maru Is A Puppy Chapter 7.

Chapter 8: Picnic

Maru Is A Puppy Chapter 8 begins with Maru making a significant decision regarding Sunjeong. In an earlier scene, she had dropped a phone cup to Sunjeong, inviting her to come play again. The following day, Sunjeong is at the kindergarten, ready to read a storybook to the children. Before starting, she introduces her hand puppet, sparking the kids’ curiosity. However, chaos ensues when Sunjeong inadvertently scares them using the same method she once used with Maru, resulting in forty crying children in her class.

Later, Sunjeong visits Woori’s apartment to share her troubles. Maru humorously acknowledges Sunjeong’s authority, calling her “boss,” which she misunderstands as an affectionate nickname. As Sunjeong prepares to leave, Woori realizes that she lives next door to her.

The next day, Woori considers spending a lovely day out with Maru. Suddenly, Maru asks her to prepare a lunch box for him. Woori discovers that Junho and Seoyul are planning a picnic and want Maru and Woori to join them. Excited, they agree to go the next day, but Woori then realizes she is out of groceries.

Chapter 9: Grocery Shopping Chaos

Maru Is A Puppy Chapter 9 opens with Woori panicking when she notices Maru isn’t by her side. She quickly spots Maru drooling over a snack counter and rushes over to apologize to the lady behind it. Afterward, Woori scolds Maru for running off and tells her to behave. Concerned about preparing a lunch box for their picnic, Woori doubts Junho’s ability to handle it alone.

Meanwhile, Maru tries to grab a candy bar, but Woori snatches it away, explaining that if they touch something, they must buy it. Accepting this, Maru humorously tries to lick items instead. Frustrated yet amused, Woori gets an idea and makes Maru sit in the shopping cart. To cheer her up, she pushes the cart quickly down the aisle, which delights Maru. When she asks for another ride, Woori tells her they’ll do it in a less crowded area.

As Woori starts her shopping, Maru begins to create chaos. Suddenly, she takes off in the shopping cart, pulling Woori along. They zoom through the store, finally crashing into a pile of sweet potatoes. Woori manages to catch Maru before she falls and tearfully offers to pay for the mess they’ve made. The next day, they excitedly prepare for their picnic, and Maru Is A Puppy Chapter 9 concludes as they meet Seoyul and Junho.

Maru Is A Puppy Chapter 10 begins with Woori and Maru meeting Junho and Seoyul for their picnic. Woori is surprised to see that Junho no longer sports his usual dark circles. They find a spot to sit, and Maru and Seoyul quickly engage in a playful lunchbox battle. Seoyul opens his lunchbox first, revealing a surprisingly impressive array of food, leaving everyone, except Junho, in shock. Woori admits she didn’t expect such a nice lunchbox.

When it’s Maru’s turn to open her lunchbox, Woori feels embarrassed to show off her own lunchbox filled entirely with sweet potato dishes. However, the kids are still excited, and they happily begin to eat. Woori notices how adept Junho is at managing the kids. He explains that it might be because he has many younger relatives, but Woori thinks he is truly incredible. After lunch, they enjoy some fruit, and Woori comments on how lucky Junho is to have a calm child-like Seoyul. Junho shares that Seoyul’s father is abroad, and Seoyul is trying to be considerate of his mom. Woori hopes that Maru could also be a bit more considerate.

Feeling sleepy after their heavy meal, the group lays down on a mat for a nap. Meanwhile, Maru becomes distracted by some bubbles floating in the air and decides to explore. Seoyul stops her, reminding Maru that she shouldn’t go too far alone. Maru Is A Puppy Chapter 10 ends with Maru leading Seoyul along, following the bubbles.

"Maru Is A Puppy" sounds like such a delightful and quirky webtoon! The way it blends humor, whimsy, and the unusual concept of a dog turning into a human is really captivating. The first few chapters already show a lot of heart, with Maru learning about human life while still holding on to her puppy-like instincts. I love how Maru’s transformation into a human comes with comedic and touching moments, especially with her relationship with Woori and how they adapt to each other’s worlds. The moments of chaos—like Maru chasing after the man’s wig, playing doctor, and her antics with the juice box—are just hilarious, and you can see that she’s still very much a puppy at heart. The interactions with Seoyul and Junho bring more depth to the story, and I especially like the dynamic between Woori, her loneliness, and Maru’s unexpected companionship. I also love the touching moments, like the picnic in Chapter 10, where everyone seems to be bonding and getting to know each other better. It’s both cute and funny to see the kids battling with lunchboxes, and Maru and Seoyul's playful interactions add a lot of charm to the story. The concept of a "humanized" dog navigating the world with her unique perspective is so fresh, and the emotional beats mixed with humor make it an enjoyable read. The character growth is already apparent, and I’m excited to see how Maru continues to adapt to her new human life and the friendships she forms. What do you think makes this webtoon stand out the most for you? The humor, the heart, or something else?
