As his friends Cholo and Ryan move toward the cafeteria, Jas becomes lost in poetic thoughts. During their cafeteria journey, a girl winks at Ryan, who responds with arrogant statements about his status as a heartthrob, even though Jas remains the more popular one. Jas reacts to his friends’ teasing about his nonexistent love life by making up a sudden story about being romantically involved with someone named Art.
Cue shock, gasps, and whispers. The revelation leaves Jas’s friends in disbelief because they believed he had kept a boyfriend secret. Rumors explode throughout the student body about Jas having a hidden boyfriend. Jas is gay?! In another part of the school, Arthur Morales—better known as Art—runs his study note business while a classmate congratulates him about an unknown achievement. Art dismisses the mystery until his classmates begin praising him.
Art discovers he has become the subject of rumors about dating Jas, who sports pink wavy hair. Julienne, the girl he has a crush on, congratulates him too, which hurts because she believes he is already involved with someone else. Art desperately tries to refute the rumors, but everyone refuses to accept his denials. Art has no other option than to meet the person who claims to be his boyfriend in order to resolve the situation, no matter what it takes. With this, Jas and Art Chapter 1 ends by delivering a comical twist of events.
Chapter 2: The Great Escape… or Not
Art enters Jas’s classroom during Jas and Art Chapter 2 with a purpose to resolve all misunderstandings. A student immediately recognized the red tie, which indicated Art was a Grade 11 student, thus solving the mystery. The student shouts, “Hey Jas, your boyfriend’s here,” which causes Art to feel pure terror.
Art maintains professionalism as he tells Jas they need to have an important discussion. Jas sits silently inside his mind while asking himself: Who is this random guy? Art attempts to lead Jas outside, but their escape is cut short when the teacher enters the classroom.
Jas makes his exit at the end of class to find some privacy during his lunch break. But fate—or karma—has other plans. Art makes a direct path toward Jas when he sees him. Any person stuck in an accidental fake relationship would naturally choose to run away from the situation.
Jas takes refuge in speaking with a teacher to escape from Art’s presence. The luck runs out when he encounters him for a second time at the canteen. Cue another sprint. The spontaneous exercise leaves Jas hot and exhausted, along with complete mental exhaustion.
Outside school, Art suddenly stops Jas, then seizes his wrist before saying, “Enough running.” Jas uses loud shouting for help, but the others see it as a typical argument between two lovebirds. The conclusion of Jas and Art Chapter 2 brings a literal reality check when Art drags Jas into the present moment.
Jas and Art Chapter 3: Rumors And A Royal Mess
Jas and Art Chapter 3 opens with Art dragging Jas across campus in a frenzied hurry, his panic barely contained. Jas spins out of control as he wonders if he offended this man through past-life karma. Is he about to punch me? The conversation becomes serious when Art leads Jas to a secluded area to talk. He demands to know who started the rumor that we are dating.
Jas stands motionless due to his surprise. “Wait… we’re what now?” Through his explanation, Art reveals how everyone got the wrong impression about their relationship. Both Jas and Art share the same surprise about the rumors since he was unaware of them. Jas’s friends arrive just when he and Art resolve the misunderstanding, and they start joking about their relationship status. Flustered, they scurry off again.
Art attempts to understand the connection between Jas and Ryan by asking how they know each other. Jas declares Ryan to be one of his closest friends. Art informs Jas that Ryan lives in his neighborhood. Lightbulb moment! Jas finally puts everything together when he realizes Art was the “Art” who he pretended to date when teased by Ryan earlier. The phrase “I’m with Art” was meant to indicate his interest in art hobbies, but not a romantic relationship. Classic misunderstanding.
Julienne suddenly interrupts their conversation to ask if this is the Art who dates her brother. Art receives a gentle request from Julienne to protect Jas while she describes him as “the most amazing person in the world.” Art and Julienne share the same family blood. Both boys awkwardly nod.
Art leaves the scene exasperated as he instructs Jas to quickly resolve this situation, ending Jas and Art Chapter 3.
Chapter 4: Boyfriend Drama
Jas and Art Chapter 4 starts with Jas playing basketball in PE until Elijah joins him without respecting his personal space. Elijah begins his fishing expedition for gossip while also hinting at a date by mocking Jas about his hidden boyfriend. Elijah receives a face push from Jas.
Art also joins the basketball game when Jas glances up to see him. The other students in class keep staring at Art while they praise him for his athletic abilities, along with his academic achievements. During their conversation, Ryan reveals that Art lives next door. Elijah bitterly insists he is superior at basketball. Jas leaves the scene to sleep while he mocks Ryan for being too uninterested to care about anything.
Art immediately pulls Jas aside for a conversation when their eyes meet for the second time. While walking, Art hears someone refer to them as boyfriends, which intensifies the uncomfortable situation. When Art finally manages to separate Jas alone, he demands an explanation about why the rumor has continued without action. Jas displays indifference by stating rumors are worthless, so why bother? Art becomes furious and gives Jas a firm instruction to end the rumors or suffer the consequences. Jas defends himself by pointing out he’s equally victimized and would think about helping only if Art were to plead with him.
That’s the final straw. Jas gets a rude response from Art, who states he would never consider dating someone like Art, even if the universe gave him a million chances. The situation escalates as their eyes turn dark while both men stare at each other with hostility. Jas and Art Chapter 4 concludes as the two boys prepare for conflict without any trace of romantic feelings.
Jas and Art Chapter 5: Detentions And A Dash of Drama
Jas and Art Chapter 5 shows students gossiping about a “lovers’ quarrel” while Jas and Art maintain their loud argument. The scene shifts when Coach storms toward them to ask what they are doing instead of being inside the classroom. The boys quickly begin blaming each other for the fight in a traditional “he started it” manner.
Coach has had enough. Coach imposes two field laps on them and gives them storage room tasks for two weeks while informing their class advisors about the incident. Oof.
Meanwhile, Elijah asks wanting to know if Jas truly has a romantic relationship with Art. Cholo explains that they do share chemistry thus making Elijah huff with annoyance. Later, Jas takes a breath and expresses frustration to Art about the whole situation becoming absurd. Cue another argument. The punishment angers Art because it will delay his shift at his part-time job. Jas taunts Art.
Racing Rumors
Art and Jas agree to a deal, where Art’s victory in the race will result in Jas clearing the rumor. But if Jas achieves victory, Art must stop bothering Jas. Art races through the track as if he is invisible to the world. Jas gives up and falls onto the grass with a theatrical motion. Art rises to his feet after the victory while gloating about his triumph and reminding Jas about their agreement. Jas agrees, sulking. The rumor between Jas continues to irritate Art as he reflects on how their relationship ruined his chance with Julienne from the start. Jas accuses Art of using turbo shoes to win the race.
Jas and Art Chapter 5 ends by Jas concluding that Art has both a short temper and possibly sneaker technology that can launch him like a rocket.
