In Between follows Eunseo and Sihwa, two childhood best friends, as they stumble into a complicated relationship that goes way deeper than just friendship. Reuniting after years of separation, their unsynchronized footsteps kicking up memories, trauma, and complex feelings. Previously in In Between, Eunseo coincidentally runs into the old friend she’d never been able to forget at college. After meeting Sihwa again, she develops frustration over his reserved demeanour and simultaneously rediscovers her feelings for the golden boy. But will they last? And what is Sihwa hiding? Let’s uncover the truth in In Between Chapter 11-20!
In Between Chapter 11: Say Hi, It’s A New Face

In Between Chapter 11 begins with a flashback to Sihwa’s abusive home life- his step-mother raising her hand on him, accusing him of causing his own mother’s death- as he, sitting in the shadows of his empty bedroom, permits the heavy silence to weigh him down. Meanwhile, in a college party, Haerang, Eunseo’s spirited friend, enthusiastically toasts to a year of fun while Eunseo watches admiringly. Among the other students, the most prevalent topic of gossip is the enigma of the ‘too handsome’ and ‘hot’ transfer student, Sihwa. There was no point in wondering if he had a girlfriend… anyone that good-looking obviously did!
One girl asks Eunseo if she was Sihwa’s boyfriend, sparking a barrage of questions about him, his hobbies, his social media (… it’s endless) by a group of students. When they accuse her of having a ‘one-sided crush’ on him, Eunseo nervously dodges the bullet by explaining that they’d been close friends since birth- and only friends. Nevertheless, she still refuses to give out his number.
Later, Eunseo chances upon a couple of college seniors bullying a young man in an alley. Making eye contact with him, Eunseo realizes that he must be in trouble and, in a split-second decision, rushes in with clenched fists to help him. However, her valiant rescue proves to be futile. The young student single-handedly makes short work of the seniors and brushes past Eunseo without a word. After the strange incident, Eunseo heads home to decompress… and finds Sihwa sitting inside, concluding In Between Chapter 11.
In Between Chapter 12: An Eye for An Eye

Following In Between Chapter 11, Chapter 12 begins as Sihwa barges into Eunseo’s bedroom looking for ‘his room’. When Eunseo frantically wonders why Sihwa was acting like her apartment was his home, he lets her know that it was. He nonchalantly explains that Eunseo’s mother had greenlighted the idea of him living in their small flat- she frequently took major decisions without consulting Eunseo- since he had nowhere else.
“I ran away from home,” Sihwa states simply as if it explained everything. Before Eunseo can inquire further, he brings up the matter of showering and flusters her into leaving him alone.
A few minutes later, Sihwa disrupts Eunseo’s panicked thoughts by strutting out in a bare bathrobe. She pushes him to get dressed (a motion that garners much resistance) before laying down a few ground rules. Eunseo had quickly accepted their cohabitation, knowing that Sihwa must be struggling more than he let on. But she had some conditions.
- Rule one: ‘Be dressed at all times!!! No bathrobes!!’ (written with four stars)
- Rule two: ‘Don’t open my door or any other bedroom doors without permission!’
- Rule three: ‘Don’t let on that you know me at school.’
After scanning the page, Sihwa takes the pen from Eunseo’s fingers to add one last rule- Eunseo had to agree to doing one activity daily with just the two of them. When she suspiciously disagrees to follow his rule, Sihwa removes his t-shirt in retaliation, concluding In Between Chapter 12.
In Between Chapter 13: A Storm Before The Eerie Calm

In Between Chapter 13 begins as Eunseo freaks out about the bare-chested man in front of her… what was Sihwa thinking?! She threatens to tell her mother about Sihwa’s shenanigans, but he nonchalantly dismisses her with a charming grin. “Go ahead, tell her. She’ll take my side,” he says with confidence, moving closer to Eunseo.
Flustered by his proximity, she quickly agrees to follow his rule- if he just puts his shirt back on. As Eunseo makes Sihwa promise not to take advantage of her, a ringtone sounds in the living room. Eunseo picks up her vibrating phone and- speak of the devil- sees an incoming call from her mother. She leaves Sihwa alone and rushes to answer the phone.
Starting off strong, Eunseo reprimands her mother for failing to give her a heads-up about letting Sihwa live with them. How could she let him pull up and move in without prior notice? What made her think she could live with him? How could she not consider her feelings? “Hwaran… Hwaran passed away,” her mother cuts in suddenly, quieting Eunseo with the revelation.
Ice Cream and Time Travel
Later, Eunseo pads back into the living room, where Sihwa was perched in front of the television, with a new perspective. Her mother had always been fond of Hwaran; she always did so much for her family. And Eunseo couldn’t always grasp why. But now she resolves to support Sihwa in any way he needs. She sits beside him while they watch a movie together, quietly scolding him in her head for not opening up about his mother’s death before.
Breaking the silence, Sihwa asks Eunseo if there was any moment in her past she wanted to time-travel back to. Instantly, she thinks of the time before she’d confessed to him… but, out loud, she says she doesn’t have one. After a brief silence, Sihwa agrees with her.
‘I’m worried that you’re acting like nothing’s wrong… even though something is very much wrong,’ Eunseo thinks, ‘It breaks my heart.’ She offers to buy him ice cream to get his mind- or her mind- off the depressive mood. But even after a nice, frozen meal, Eunseo clutches her head in anxiety. Sihwa pauses by a bench and finally decides to open up to his best friend, concluding In Between Chapter 13.

In Between Chapter 14: Sihwa’s Little Life Update

A long silence stimulates Eunseo’s anxious thoughts as she sits beside Sihwa, beginning In Between Chapter 14. Unintentionally, she fixes Sihwa with a hard stare while trying to figure out how to comfort him. After a brief moment, he notices that she was ogling him with ‘such passion’ and brings up the topic of his mother.
Eunseo remains tongue-tied, shooting down every insensitive question that pops into her head, when Sihwa slightly leans into her shoulder. Every particle in Eunseo’s body becomes hyper-aware with the contact. A few minutes later, Sihwa finally speaks up and begins the conversation with the usual icebreaker- “My dad was having an affair.” He explains that he’d known ever since high school. He’d debated telling his mother, but he’d never had the chance. After his mother passed away, Sihwa was ‘alone for a while’ with nowhere he wanted to or could go.
Then he’d returned to the country… just to find out that his father’s mistress was still with him. “I thought I’d forgotten her face… but I recognized her right away,” he explains solemnly. He couldn’t bear to live with her. How could he watch her take his mother’s place? So he’d run away.
Heliocentric Disposition
Eunseo remembers the Sihwa she’d once known: the shining sun who always won in competitions and in life. Now she listens to that same boy, a dying star, as he explains how he still used his father’s credit card. “I’m total trash,” he bitterly says to her.
Immediately, Eunseo throws her arms around him. The words finally escape her lips as she consoles him in the best way she knows: awkward blabber. She tells her hurting friend that it wasn’t his fault; his father was supposed to provide for him. Suddenly, Sihwa grabs Eunseo’s arm and pulls her closer. Before she can comprehend the situation, all the blood rushes to her face, tinging her cheeks and flooding her head with half-formed thoughts, concluding In Between Chapter 14.

In Between Chapter 15: Be Gone, Begonias!

In Between Chapter 15 begins as Eunseo’s mind races with one wild thought: was she about to kiss Sihwa?! But before all her teenage fantasies can come true, Sihwa suddenly pushes her away. With just four words, he destroys all her daydreams- “This was a mistake.” Later that night, Sihwa remembers the time Eunseo had promised that she was ‘always on his side’ in high school. ‘As I thought… Eunseo still likes me,’ he observes, leaning against the door of his room.
The next day, Eunseo floats through all her classes with barely a second glance at the teacher. She was too occupied by unbidden flashbacks of the previous night reigning over her brain space to concentrate. While shopping for flowers to grow as classwork, a random selection leads to her choosing the begonias. Guess what? They represent unrequited love.
Instantly, Eunseo puts them back on the shelf. She would not be participating in that manifestation. Suddenly, she hears Sihwa passing by with a group of friends. Just the mere sight of him disrupts Eunseo’s already dazed thoughts while Sihwa himself seems unfazed. In her agitation, she picks up a random pot of flowers- an empty container that contains nothing but a small green bud- concluding In Between Chapter 15.
In Between Chapter 16: Bad Timing & Worse Throwing

In Between Chapter 16 begins as Eunseo glumly prods her little plant bud while trying to convince herself that she was not in love with Sihwa. She was just aware of him. She pulls out her phone to click a picture of the miserable bud. While selecting the most flattering angle (the perfectly round and green side), she notices a picture of Haerang with a group of new friends on social media. Once again, Eunseo is left in awe of her friend’s charming personality.
Later, Haerang takes the metro home… and falls asleep on the way. When her station is announced through the speakers, she jerks awake and just barely manages to squeeze through the sliding doors. Only once she’s safely on the other side of the glass does she notice her phone. She frantically calls out to a blonde boy in glasses to throw her the phone before the doors close. And in one clean arc, she manages to catch it. Oh, the triumph!
Meanwhile, inside the metro, the blonde boy stares at a phone on the seat beside him. A sudden wave of panic hits him… oh no. “I threw my phone to her!” he grumbles in exasperation.
Back at Eunseo’s apartment, Eunseo takes a warm bath after exercising her headache away (don’t question it). While soaking in the uncomfortably small tub of the guest room, she imagines Sihwa leaning over her. The vivid image throws her off balance and headfirst into the bathwater. She clutches her head in extreme embarrassment and stumbles out of the bathroom in a towel. Suddenly, she hears the front door lock click (that can only be one person…!), concluding In Between Chapter 16.

In Between Chapter 17: Hide and Seek

In Between Chapter 17 begins as Eunseo debates the best- or the least worst- way to slip out of Sihwa’s bedroom unnoticed. Unfortunately, every strategy ends with the same situation: running into him while wearing nothing but a towel. She cracks the door open by an inch and peers out to gather intelligence on the scenario outside.
But to her surprise, the apartment seems empty. After double-checking that Sihwa wasn’t hiding in any corners (it’s happened before), she irritably- she’d gotten worked up over nothing- walks away to get dressed.
That night, after Sihwa doesn’t show up for dinner, Eunseo stops waiting for him and has a late meal. Later, she texts him the code for the door lock and goes to bed, wondering if Sihwa was out because of family trouble.
Laying It All on The Landline
The next morning, Yuna, the blonde girl from the first day Eunseo had run into Sihwa, scolds her brother for not being more firm with the girl who “stole his phone”. Though he’d sent the subway girl a message, she hadn’t replied. “She’s making a fool of you,” Yuna says and tells him to inform the police. However, the blonde boy, Yu-an, adamantly argues that he didn’t believe the girl was ignoring his messages on purpose (and it’s true!). At that moment, Sihwa approaches Yu-an and his disapproving sister.
With his arrival, Yuna immediately blushes and becomes sweeter in demeanour. She invites Sihwa out to have coffee with her, while Haerang, all the way on the other side of the corridor, notices him. She points him out to Eunseo, who crossly notes that he was completely fine. She’d been so worried, and for what?
That night, Sihwa witnesses the black-capped guy (who brushed past Eunseo before) getting fired from a club for being ‘too scary’. He notices Sihwa gazing at him and, cursing, quickly walks away in a panic, concluding In Between Chapter 17.

In Between Chapter 18: Falling For You

In Between Chapter 18 begins as Eunseo drowns her feelings with a drink or two… or ten. Although Haerang tries to stop her, Eunseo chugs down mugs full of alcohol. Heavily drunk, she slumps down in her chair and mumbles something about being ‘totally fine’ (because totally fine people chug vats of beer within minutes when they’re out with their friends).
After everyone leaves, Haerang finds herself alone with Eunseo, who’d rendered herself completely incapable of going home alone. Haerang couldn’t take her back to her own apartment, but she could drop her off. With that plan, there was just one problem. Haerang had no idea where her home was. Suddenly, Sihwa appears and offers to take Eunseo back to her apartment. Suspicious of him, Haerang tries to stop him from taking Eunseo. She eventually relents when he shocks her with the information that they lived together. How did she have no idea?!
While Sihwa carries Eunseo piggyback style, she slowly regains her consciousness. After he gives her a vague explanation for where he was the night before, Eunseo stubbornly insists on walking by herself despite her obvious incapability. She wonders how he’d figured out her location while walking in a dazed trance. Why did she keep embarrassing herself like this? Abruptly, one misstep and she suddenly trips, finding herself en route to the pavement.
But this being a romance manhwa, Sihwa catches her before she face-plants onto the cement. Even then, all she can think about is the day he almost kissed her. Suddenly, Eunseo becomes hyper-aware of his arm around her and immediately blushes. Noticing her feverish face, Sihwa wonders if she was sick, concluding In Between Chapter 18.
In Between Chapter 19: Eunseo’s Odd Situation

In Between Chapter 19 begins as Sihwa wins bingo points for correctly guessing the meaning behind Eunseo’s expression. Because, not a moment after Eunseo becomes flustered over her proximity to Sihwa, she grabs his shirt and throws up all over it.
The next day, as Haerang and Eunseo order coffee, Sihwa walks into the cafe. Faster than Houdini himself, Eunseo disappears from sight. Sihwa, unfooled by her magic trick, pays for Haerang’s coffee… as well as Eunseo’s (he knows you’re there, Eunseo) and walks away with a smile on his face thinking, ‘She’s so silly.’
After he leaves, Eunseo sullenly explains the whole situation to her: being carried home, throwing up on Sihwa’s designer shirt, and his inability to ever get angry. “You just need to apologize!” Haerang says wisely, “Stop avoiding him, and take the bull by the horns!” Later in class, the professor announces a group project for the students. Haerang and Eunseo happily form a group of two… but Sihwa quickly rains on their parade by asking to join them. Although Eunseo argues that they needed an even number, Sihwa remains undeterred. He asks Yu-an to join them, concluding In Between Chapter 19.
In Between Chapter 20: Never Forget Icarus

In Between Chapter 20 begins as Haerang shoots an endless volley of questions about Yu-an to Sihwa: who was he? What was his age? Was he single?
Meanwhile, Sihwa asks Eunseo to walk home with him. When she tries to refuse and uses Haerang’s club as an excuse, Sihwa decides to join the club too (dedication). She asks Haerang for her opinion, obviously hoping to vote him out. However, when Sihwa mentions bringing Yu-an, Haerang flocks to him like a moth to a flame.
She ends up walking home anyways. Strolling side-by-side, Eunseo prays to the heavens that Sihwa wouldn’t bring up the night before. Which he obviously does. He begins to talk about how he needed to replace the shirt Eunseo ruined, deepening her guilt. Then, to save her from the awkward situation, another problem comes. One of her distant friends joins their conversation using her acquaintance with Eunseo to speak with Sihwa. Eunseo glumly rolls her eyes- this happened all the time in high school; she was used to it. Suddenly, the girl asks Eunseo to go on a blind date, concluding In Between Chapter 20.
