The First Night With the Duke Chapter 80: Unspoken Truths and Shadows of the Past

The First Night With the Duke Chapter 80 begins with Ripley questioning Wright, noticing his odd stammering. Wright is attempting to be casual, but his tight fists are a dead giveaway. Ripley compels him to explain himself by being more forceful. She makes him swear on Etoile’s name, as she cannot give her best friend to a person she cannot trust. Wright gets tensed, fists clenched, eyes glistening, nearly on the verge of tears under her relentless questioning. Just then, Etoile quietly interjects, saying she’s fine “belonging by Ripley’s side,” surprising Wright. Wright admits his guilt and recalls how she rejected him when Ripley was unconscious, but he never stopped loving her. “I love you, Miss Etoile”, he says in all seriousness. To his delight, Etoile, at last, confesses, “Lord Wright, I am also in love with you“. Finally, they both smile happily at last.
Later, Ripley tells Sylvia how Etoile turned down Wright on her account. She then visits the marketplace, buying bread for the children and explaining her reasons to Sylvia. However, in the market, she sees a wounded, shadowy figure under veils and stops dead. Those piercing eyes…she’s certain they belong to Rose. Sylvia dashes away to investigate and reveals to her that the body of Rose was never found. Ripley struggles to process the possibility that Rose is still alive when a loud noise is heard from their surroundings. The First Night With the Duke Chapter 80 ends with Ripley realizing that the past she thought was buried may have come back to haunt her.
The First Night With the Duke Chapter 81: A Chance Meeting

The First Night With the Duke Chapter 81 begins with a commotion in the marketplace. A shopkeeper shouts after a thief who runs off with stolen goods. In a flash Sylvia pursues and Ripley runs right behind her. In their search, they end up in an abandoned alley where they meet the figure bent over and eating a rotten apple. The figure, seeing bread in Ripley’s hand, snatches and eats the food quite hungrily.
Ripley freezes when the figure finally looks up. And it is Rose! Burns and scars cover her, and an empty, almost childish gratefulness has replaced the proud attitude. Rose says gently, “You are such a kind lady.” Ripley is appalled hearing this, wondering if Rose does not remember her. Sylvia scowls and thinks it must be another trick. But all Rose does is thank Ripley once again, referring to herself as a duchess and saying she will pay her back one day.
A Choice to Let Go
Sylvia tries to make Ripley leave, but Rose asks them for more food. Ripley gives her all the bread she has. And they walk away, Rose thanking her behind her back. Sylvia sternly reminds Ripley in the carriage that Zeronis is aware of Rose’s crimes and that her family has rejected and denied any involvement. Ripley sits in silence, thinking about how Rose was once a friend to the original Ripley. She thinks that Rose could have had a different life, a life that did not make her a villain. Sylvia advises her not to feel guilty simply saying that Rose made her own choice and that her suffering is already some kind of a punishment given by heaven.
Ripley eventually agrees and chooses to forgive herself for being guilty about Rose. But her thoughts soon turn back to Wright. She still hasn’t gotten the full story out of him — and wonders just what Zeronis is hiding from her, and why he’s been acting so oddly. The First Night With the Duke Chapter 81 ends with Ripley wrestling with questions she can’t yet answer.
The First Night With the Duke Chapter 82: Jitters And Guests

The First Night With the Duke Chapter 82 begins with Ripley at home, thinking over Duke Zeronis’ strange behavior. She asks Sylvia whether men, too, have pre-wedding jitters, since thinking about the Duke’s strange behavior. That morning he had not awakened her as usual. But had kissed her, when in a state of supposed sleep, and fled when she again questioned about their wedding. When she tried asking about the wedding again, he avoided the topic and told her to rest. Ripley, frustrated, confides in Sylvia about how weird he’s been lately. Distant and nervous, even though they’re supposed to be happy.
Just as she is wandering over this, a guest comes in. None other than Prince Sharman’s little sister, lively and adorable. The girl does not waste time and demands Ripley to make her the maid of honor as she is the cutest choice. Off guard, Ripley refuses, saying that she has already decided on Etoile to do so. The little girl whines and claims that cuteness should be used to determine such things. In order to please her, Ripley says that they should make her the flower girl instead. This instantly brightens the princess and she smiles, saying she will do her best. Then she enquires about the date of the wedding. Ripley, embarrassed, since she does not even know herself, says that she will inform her later.
And A Question Unasked
Ripley later gets desperate to face Duke Zeronis and straighten things out. She goes to the garden, where she wants to know why he has been avoiding her and why the wedding preparations remain so vague. However, when she finally locates him, his facial expression and the way he is fidgeting make her pause. However, to his surprise, she leans in and kisses him, blurting out, “I am absolutely dying to get married to you right now!” Her words leave Zeronis blushing and momentarily speechless. Then all of a sudden, he breaks into laughter, pulling her into his arms and calling her “my clueless, adorable little duchess.” Ripley looks at him again, baffled, until Zeronis at last explains what has been happening all this time.
As it turns out, it was not doubt or nerves that made him avoid her. Instead, he was secretly planning a big surprise. A proposal with a thousand blooming roses all around. He even went to the extent of enlisting the help of Wright to make it all perfect. When Ripley glances around, she can finally see the gorgeous garden, a sea of roses, fragrant and magical under the sky.
Happy Times Finally
Zeronis then starts his emotional speech about their journey from the first day they met to the present. Ripley gets emotional with every word as she feels her heart overflow with love. And then, in the most romantic moment of all, Zeronis kneels on one knee before her, bowing his head respectfully and asking.“Will you please marry me?” Ripley is too emotional to wipe away her tears as she smiles. She meets his gaze, her heart full, and softly but surely gives her answer. A Promise Sealed for Eternity
The party goes on and on, and everyone there has a great time. Ripley notices Etoile trying to hold back tears and asks Wright about her. Wright quietly shares a soft memory: that even Zeronis, as a child, used to cry a lot, until the day when he accepted the duties of a duke. Since then, he had hidden his emotions behind a cold exterior.
Wright continues by saying how the Duke changed. Duke opened up, laughed more, and looked much better since Ripley entered his life. Ripley is moved by his words just as Zeronis joins them with his classic jealous smile. It is later in the night that the couple finally gets to be alone in their bedroom. Zeronis softly cages her in his arms and his voice is low and full of love when he says, “This is the real beginning of the first night.” Ripley smiles back, her heart full, as he asks playfully yet sincerely, “May I have your first night?” The First Night With the Duke Chapter 84 ends with the promise of a long, happy life together — their real story just beginning.
