However, when she uses the Everytym app (where all the gossip is shared), she comes across a post about a mysterious crush—people are sure it’s about C.N. Some call him hot, and those who say he is nothing but human trash. Ihyeon decides not to get involved in any of this.

Later, he asks her about the T.A., and she once again refuses to listen, wondering why he thinks they’re friends. He argues they are in the same class, he helped with her glasses, and he knows her name. When she says she doesn’t know his name, he feels very betrayed.
A Number, A Shock, and An Ex
Later, she goes for a walk to try to forget about her problems and the drama with Ex. She gets a college party message on her phone, but she decides not to go and just gets some snacks instead. She runs into a guy who is a jerk and accidentally spills her drink on him, which leads to him harassing her. As she stumbles with her thank-you and starts to leave, Chanu suddenly says, “I like you.” At this moment, Ihyeon’s soul leaves her body, and he laughs to show it was all a joke. Classic Chanu. Se-eun, her roommate, comes into Chanu’s room while he is still recovering and warns him not to touch her. Ihyeon is taken away, not knowing what world she finds herself in.
The following day, she doesn’t know what to make of it, as Chanu and Se-eun are acting as though they’re all best friends. While they are walking, Chanu grabs her and moves her out of the way when a motorbike comes near. Is he only being nice? Or…something else?
When they are preparing for dinner, Ihyeon is shocked to see Chanu step out onto her floor. He says his bathroom is getting remodeled. Sure. Chanu stands in her way, and she accidentally trips over him and lands right on top of him. Cue blushes and complete silence. Chemistry heats up like ramen being cooked in the microwave. Rules for Dating Trash Chapter 4 ends with blushing faces and dangerously close personal space.
Chapter 5: Tutoring & Teasing
Rules for Dating Trash Chapter 5 begins with Ihyeon tripping into disaster—again. After she falls, Chanu is all charm, hugging her, making fun of her for being too energetic, and coming in for a kiss. Ihyeon? Shocked and flustered, she ends up slapping him!
To bring peace back into her life, Ihyeon tries her best to keep away from Chanu. She gets up early and leaves quietly so she avoids him. It’s hard to get rid of him, especially as he seems to be everywhere. The situation becomes more painful when Taehyeok Kang, her EX, texts her saying he wants to “talk.” No, she’d rather not.
That night, Chanu, as he always does, requests Ihyeon to help him study for the midterms. Se-eun suggests that Jang-mi say yes, but only if he will pay for everything they eat together. Ihyeon still doubts him and thinks there’s more going on than he lets on (and she’s probably right).
Because of this, she refuses his offer to teach him. Chanu doesn’t stop, though. He keeps pestering, pleading, annoying, and making her feel guilty until she gives in. They decide to begin next week so she can get ready.
On the day of the tutoring session, Ihyeon brings her notes, has snacks ready, and looks ready to teach. When Chanu arrives, he sees Ihyeon in a different state: she is asleep. Rules for Dating Trash Chapter 5 ends with a stunned Chanu and a peacefully snoring tutor who didn’t survive her prep.
Rules for Dating Trash Chapter 6: Study Buddies and Surprise Clubs
Rules for Dating Trash Chapter 6 picks up with Ihyeon waking up in panic, because nothing screams “productive tutor” like dozing off mid-session. She wakes up to see Chanu’s face right in front of her. Of course, she lets out a scream. He notices the drool on her face and points it out in a casual way (though not very polite), and she feels embarrassed and starts to wipe it off. He tries to look annoyed, but he secretly notices that she is quite impressive and hardworking.
During the next few days, Chanu starts helping her a little, such as carrying her bag without being told to do so. Naturally, Ihyeon blushes and becomes very shy. One time, he gave her a chocolate as a surprise. She tries not to take the gift, but he gives it to her and runs away to his friends.
As soon as Ihyeon starts to move on, her ex, Taehyeok, comes back. He thinks she’s still the same silly person she used to be. His remarks cut her as badly and reminded her of the old memories. Se-eun comes to the rescue, inviting Eun-ji to join a club at college.
Ihyeon, getting caught up in the heat of the moment, agrees to join but discovers Chanu is there already. Rules for Dating Trash Chapter 6 ends with a classic “oh no, not him again” twist.
Rules for Dating Trash Chapter 7: Oppa? Not a Chance
Rules for Dating Trash Chapter 7 begins with Ihyeon walking into the clubroom only to nearly choke on her own thoughts, because sitting there, smug as ever, is none other than Chanu Nam. It turns out, he joined the film club just because he wanted to be with her. She decides to never take part in any of the club’s outdoor events again.
After the meeting, Se-eun asks Ihyeon about her tutoring classes. Chanu immediately speaks up to say that she’s been very responsible. Ihyeon’s cheeks turn so red she might go up in flames. With her new motivation, Ihyeon puts even more effort into her tutoring tasks. When the exams get over, Ihyeon inquires about Chanu’s performance. He claims to have given all the answers, and she looks amazed. He also puts his hand on her shoulder and praises her. Perhaps the bigger surprise is. She doesn’t shy away from the touch, which Chanu notices.
Once the scores are revealed, Chanu has earned a B+, which is a big success for “Mr. What is a textbook?” Ihyeon is truly amazed, and he jokingly gives her the credit. Next, looking very pleased, he teases her for never calling him by his name or by the honorifics “oppa” or “seonbae.” Ihyeon’s answer? A strong and very clear “HECK no.”
Tests, and Terrible Exes
Later, Ihyeon and Taehyeok end up meeting at a peaceful café. She tells him that his text messages are making her uncomfortable. She tells him he has no right, given that he cheated. He acts unconcerned and says, “So what?” Rules for Dating Trash Chapter 7 ends with Ihyeon staring at him, stunned at his response.
