She confesses how she feels left out and lonely when Kade is away and expresses her desire to talk to people even when they are away. He cannot relate to her need for socializing. Zaida greets them as Friend(Ethan) and Stranger(Stace), which bums Stace out. Ethan asks about the movie and is unsettled to find out it’s a horror movie and is surprised Zay is into this stuff. Once inside, she asks to go with Stace and Ethan to get seats while Kade gets snacks. Kade, although anxious, agrees and asks Ethan to keep an eye on her.
Zay admires the new place and its faces, and Stace comments on the way she glows. They find seats and settle down by the time Kade returns. He is annoyed to find that the seating arrangement is not to his preference as she is between Ethan and Stace, leaving him a seat beside Stace. She soothes him, and Stace calls him a wimp.
After the movie, the three of them discuss the plot while Kade is shown slumping alone. While Zay they talking, Stace notices her off grammar and accent and asks where she is from. Ethan quickly covers it up as her not liking to talk about it, which Kade mentally thanks. The four of them decide to grab a bite, and before leaving, Stace and Ethan go off to throw their wrappers in a dustbin. She is about to follow when he takes her hand and asks her to stay with him. Down to Earth Chapter 47 ends with him showing the side of him that misses not having Zay close to him.
Chapter 48: A Run in the Rain

After dinner, they part ways, and Stace is disappointed to still be in the ‘Stranger’ status for Zaida. Kade and Zay watch the pouring rain, and Zay comments on how cold it gets. Kade throws his jacket over her and runs off into the rain with a ‘Race you to the car.’ As they run, Kade laughs, enjoying the moment, and Zaida feels overwhelmed by emotion. They get in the car, Kade still laughing, till he notices Zay is crying. She says how happy she is and feels like a real earthling. She thanks him for being such an amazing friend to her. He talks about how it was Zay’s first experience with rain and how mesmerized she looked, but she barely hears him. Noticing her silence, he turns around to find Zay fully engrossed in her manga and red-faced. He asks how she can be so into it when she can’t read, and she distractedly replies that it rains in Zodia too.
The next scene shows Kade reading the manga to her and complaining about Zay choosing the most awkward scene. He summarizes it, which doesn’t satisfy her, and she asks for the dialogue. Kade, barely conscious, says it’s too hot. Zay rushes off to get the hairdryer and switches the cool air towards him. He complains about the noise and rolls over, leaving Zay helpless. She then thinks of bringing him ice and dumps two whole zip bags of ice onto him. Kade jolts up and yells at her about needing cold but not ice while Zay is happy he is normal again. She is checking his temperature again when Kade takes her hand and places it over his cheek, loving how cold they are. She hesitantly raises her other hand and cups his cheeks with both her hands.
Kade loses consciousness again and plops onto the bed. Zay panics and decides she has to read his mind to know what is wrong with him. After placing the cold rag and thermometer on him, Zay feels more relaxed. The thermometer beeps, showing a 102-degree fever, which Zay doesn’t understand. Kade, conscious now, asks Zay for water, which she hurriedly gets for him.
Zay apologizes for reading his mind without asking, which Kade brushes off. Despite knowing this isn’t the best time, she asks to know more about Kade and Delilah, which surprises him. He says how he will, but only if she talks about herself. She accepts it but admits that she isn’t yet ready for that. Kade asks if she saw memories of him and Delilah, to which she replies she only saw her the way he perceived her.
She saw her as fun, beautiful, and outgoing and felt how Kade felt after losing her. Kade is silent for a moment before expressing his pride in Zay. He praises her for how quickly she has adjusted, her dedication to learning, and how she overcame her insecurities in public. He also appreciates how she is now taking care of him. Kade tells her that she is becoming a wonderful Earthling, making her beam with happiness. Down to Earth Chapter 51 concludes with Zay falling asleep, thinking of Delilah, and watching over Kade.

Zay rushes to open the door and greets him. She forgets that it’s her study day and lets Ethan in, offering him soup. Ethan refuses, saying he just had lunch and looks around for Kade. She explains how he came down with a fever, and Ethan accuses them of making out in the rain after he and Stace left. Zay is horrified at this and excuses herself to go check on Kade while Ethan sets up the study materials. She peeks into the bedroom and finds Kade sound asleep.
The next scene shows Zay and Ethan in the hall going through the day’s alphabet. While practicing, Zay asks if Ethan has secrets and if he would share them with friends. Ethan responds by saying how it would depend on the secret and the friends and asking what’s on her mind. In Down to Earth Chapter 53, Zay confesses her fear of being judged if she opens up about her past. Ethan says that it would depend on what she had done and notes how Zaida doesn’t seem the type to hurt anyone. He promises her that he will never view her differently and is certain Kade won’t either. Zay is much relieved when Ethan says that she only has to open up about her past if she’s ready. Zay suddenly remembers about the soup and darts into the kitchen to turn off the stove.
Ethan asks Zay if she likes Earth better, and she replies that she won’t ever return to her home planet. She then says how, with each passing day, Earth feels more like her home. At this, Ethan says how she is so ‘Down to Earth’ for an alien and calls her boring, which shocks Zay. The next scene shows Ethan leaving, appreciating Zay for the progress she made. Zay goes back in and is feeding Cosmo when someone knocks at the door again. Thinking it’s Ethan, she opens the door and is surprised to find Stace on the other side. Down to Earth Chapter 53 ends with Zay realizing she just opened the door for a stranger.
Chapter 54: Protective

Suddenly remembering his purpose, he says that Kade usually calls in if he can’t make it to work and that Stace wants to check on him. Stace asks if she has thought about his offer, to which Zay admits that she is interested but does not know enough about it. Stace assures her that she doesn’t need to know anything and goes to fetch Spender’s Winter Catalogue from his car. While she goes through the catalog, Stace apologizes for bothering her too much but says it would be a shame not to have her. She is about to reply when suddenly Kade appears and wraps his arms around her, letting Stace know they have talked long enough.
Kade slams the door once Stace drives away and asks Zay if he made her uncomfortable in any way. He notices her cold hands holding the magazine and grabs them, scolding her for not slamming the door on Stace’s face. She retorts how she had been worried about him too and how he had slept the whole day. He says he’s feeling better but would like to rest more nonetheless. She is relieved Kade’s doing well and picks up the magazine that fell down. Down to Earth Chapter 54 ends with Zay admiring the people in the magazine and wondering if she could do that too.
