Just a Cat is a quirky fantasy webtoon that explores the growing bond between a magical cat and a lone hunter as they try to uncover a web of tangled mysteries. With help from various people, Cat and Hawk race to unravel all the secrets before a looming danger destroys their world. Previously in Just a Cat, Hawk takes Cat to the Hunter’s Guild to check whether he was a magical creature. The young woman there realizes that the results were negative. Later, Lucas gives Hawk possession of his old, World-Tree-infected mentor’s body. After Hawk asks Cat for a favour, a high-ranking knight notices an enlarged cat towering above the forest. And then he asked Lucas, who’d arrived at the military camp, if it was due to the World Tree. Let’s see what happens in Just A Cat Chapter 8.
Just a Cat Chapter 8: Wendy Comes to Cat’s Rescue

Just a Cat Chapter 8 begins as Lucas tells the army commander, Captain Harold, that the giant cat looming in front of them was likely a magical creature, and not a World Tree-infected being. Captain Harold assesses the situation and orders his soldiers to hunt the cat down.
A while before Cat transformed into a mountain, Hawk had knelt beside Sirius’s open casket. Peering down at the body, which was entangled in blue World Tree vines, Hawk had dubiously wondered whether his old mentor was dead. He’d asked Cat to absorb the mana from the vines, like he usually did before wielding his magic power. However, Cat had just looked at him cluelessly, leading Hawk to realize that the little kitten didn’t know how he was absorbing mana.
Reflecting on the past times Cat had absorbed energy, Hawk realizes that he’d have to damage the tree vines first. He’d ripped out the central tree branch from Sirius’s body to test his theory- and it’d worked. Cat began rapidly absorbing the bright blue mana. The vines disappeared from the body, leaving a big blue gemstone in the chest. Before Hawk could further examine it, Cat had begun growing at an uncontrollable speed. Soon, he’d grown taller than the neighbouring mountain peaks.
A New Friend
Presently, the gigantic cat whimpers that he doesn’t feel well. Hawk tells him to use the mana to rid himself of the sickness. And then a young woman appears beside them out of nowhere (the tester from the Hunter’s Guild).
Striding determinedly past Hawk with blue mana curling around her, the girl touches Cat’s enlarged paw and promises to help him. Faster than lightning, Hawk has his wyvern talon blade to her neck. He threatens to kill her if she harms Cat. After she persuades him to let her ease the kitten’s pain, the girl, Wendy, uses empty manacles to absorb the extra mana from Cat’s body. She explains that using mana in that state would only be dangerous. Once she captures the excess power, which was making him sick, Cat shrinks to his original size.
However, they barely have a chance to blink before Captain Harold and his army appear in front of them. Harold announces that he serves as a knight of the Garnet Kingdom. Proudly grinning, he declares them all to be ‘under his control’, concluding Chapter 8.
What Happened So Far?

Previously in Just a Cat, a tragically orphaned kitten with extremely powerful abilities meets an adventurous hunter.
Hawk, who chances upon the little kitten, decides to take the cat, very creatively named Cat, under his wing. He takes Cat to a test to check whether he’s a magical creature, and the results come back negative. However, before Hawk learns of the news, he’s attacked by his old mentor and Topaz Kingdom traitor, Sirius, who eventually escapes.
Later, Hawk sits in Kwonter’s butcher shop with skilled assassin Lena. Here, he learns that the Topaz Kingdom had fallen to the World Tree- a parasitic creature that infected living beings and took hold of their consciousness. He’s visited by Lucas, a member of the Hunters’ Guild, who brings Hawk to Sirius’s dead body. He explains that his old mentor had been infected by the tree and killed himself before surrendering consciousness to it.
Hawk slowly digests Lucas’s new information. After learning of the inhumane experiments King Topaz had been conducting throughout the kingdom (which had now fallen), Hawk decides to end the cruel King once and for all. Lucas wisely recognizes his passion to kill the King as revenge over heroism, but votes not to extend the matter. Lucas takes his leave (much to Hawk’s relief) and ends up at Captain Harold’s camp, from where he sees the giant cat.
