The Hooky webtoon has graced us with the iconic time skip! Yes, you get to see your beloved Dani and Dorian all grown up. However, this isn’t one of the typical “hero returns” time skips you’ve seen and read before. Hooky has taken a dark turn. With non-mages and witches at each other’s throats and death at every turn, the Dytte twins have seen too much to stay sane.

Just as Pendragon predicted, a slim, dark figure with pale skin wears the crown, bringing death on its path, and as the prophecy said, a Dytte is behind it all. So, who among the twins became the king/queen of witches? What future lies ahead for them? Is there a chance for redemption? Or is it too late? Also, if you’ve just started reading the Hooky webtoon, I must warn you ahead of time about spoilers.

Growing Romance

The kids have grown up, and so have their adorable affection for each other. Mariam, the author and illustrator of Hooky, has beautifully handled the transition from childish love to a proper adult relationship. However, she has kept a part of childish innocence to resonate with her young audience while subtly adding fruitiness with humour to keep it PG.

Your famous ships show you what healthy relationships look like. They prioritize their duty over romance when needed, share their feelings, protect each other, respect opinions, and are openly vulnerable to each other.
Traditional Politics in the Kingdom

The kingdom needed a new king. But, when William’s father stepped in, his fascist rule did not bring respite to the people. Furthermore, the despair-driven Wytte, guided by their revenge-obsessed mother, drove the witches to commit mass destruction. This monarchial rule on either side yielded undesirable destruction and death among the non-mages and witches alike.
Following the death of the new King, William had to step up as his successor. And according to tradition, he should be married to succeed to the throne. Now, Monica has to choose whether she should marry Will, the man she was betrothed to as a child, A marriage that would give her the royal influence on people that could change the course of the war, or wait for Dorian, her genuine love interest.
The aftermath of war has taken a toll on the daily lives of people in Hooky webtoon. The non-mages spear down witches on sight out of fear, while the witches abduct non-mages for slavery. As a result, houses are destroyed, and curfews are heavy. There is no peace in the magical realm. Fear rules over the non-mages and witches alike, and they are growing sick and tired of how their lives have turned out.
The Inevitable Outcome Of War – DEATH!
War is a battle of power where only the powerless pay the price. Despite being a cheery and fun webtoon, Hooky did not stray away from capturing such fallouts of war. Mariam proves her adept writing skills by simplifying the complexities of war to suit her beloved young audience. Moreover, she has explored the politics and strategies of war with a milder tone to take in easily without holding back the devastating outcomes. Among several casualties, the gut-wrenching death of a few significant characters greatly influenced Dorian and Dani’s view of the war.
Hooky Webtoon Character: Alex

Debut appearance: Chapter 34
Death: Chapter 69
Alex and her band members, Barry and Noah, were introduced in the Witches’ Sabbath arc. She helped Princess Monika dress up as a witch to sneak her into the sabbath, and they also helped them escape the sabbath when the dragons went on a rampage.
Alex was a rebellious witch who strongly believed in peace. Her ideals made her an instant fan favorite, making her death more painful. Alex and her crew were the first witches after Dani and Dorian, who advocated peace. Moreover, If it weren’t for Alex, Dani would’ve believed that all witches are inherently evil. Her trauma after seeing dead children in the candy house was eased by Alex, who showed kindness to witches and non-mages alike.
When the King’s guard stabbed Alex, Dani’s despair took shape into something sinister. She floated without a broom and tossed around people with no wands, almost killing innocents before she was stopped. Alex’s death stayed with Dani even after years, and her actions when she snapped haunted her more.
Hans Wytte

Burnt to death by a dragon: Chapter 117
Dani and Dorian’s parents were not always keen on revenge. They once believed the humans wouldn’t harm them because the King passed a law not to harm the witches. However, everything changed when the people of the town almost burned the then-pregnant Angela Wytte alive in Hooky Chapter 75. Hans helplessly watched as the town’s people set his wife on flame. And after the traumatic incident, he was even more distraught when his wife was no longer the cheery and lively woman he loved. Following that event, the Wytte family sought revenge and never hesitated to kill.
During the William Rescue arc, the ambush on the twin’s rescue team brought forth Han’s death. Hans tried to convince Dorian to take the throne after the prophecy. When Dorian refused, Hans attempted to take him by force. Seeing this, Dorian’s over-protective dragon burned him alive.
Han’s death took a heavy toll on all the Wyttes. Dorian blamed himself for the death of his father. He believed that he could reason with his parents, but with Han’s death, it was too late. Angela Wytte’s obsession with revenge burned more vital than ever, causing her to go to extremes. Following that, her every action changed the war’s course from bad to worse. Dani suffered another loss over this meaningless war but remained strong for her brother, reassuring him it was not his fault.
The King and Queen

Princess Monica’s Parents, the King, and Queen’s Death: Chapter 126
The King was the starting point of all chaos. When he was young, he ordered the burning of the witches. The King also retracts the law, realizing his immaturity during his younger age and regretting his decisions. Besides becoming a kinder king, he was also a loving and protective father, but not too protective to restrict her daughter Monica from doing the right thing. Before his death, he promised Dani and Dorian he would make his kingdom a place where non-mages and witches could co-exist.
After Han’s death, enraged Angela Wytte sneaked into the King and queen’s chamber and murdered them in their sleep. With the King dead, Dani and Dorian’s hope for a cordial relationship between the witches and no-mages went down the drain. They felt they were back to square one until William’s father, the King of the neighbouring kingdom, took the throne and worsened matters.
William’s Father – The Second King

The second king’s death: Chapter 141
William’s father had a substantial prejudice against the witches. He betrayed the King’s order against burning the witches by setting Angela Wytte on fire in front of the people at the town square. He believed all witches were dangerous, and this predisposition and actions following that flamed the Wyttes’ obsession with vengeance.
William’s father succeeded in gaining the throne after the King died. His rule for three years infuriated the witches. Furthermore, both sides faced several losses. With the revenge-obsessed Angela Wytte on one side and the prejudiced tyrant on the other, both mages and non-mages grew tired of all the destruction and hatred.
William’s father died of natural causes, marking the beginning of hope for the magical realm towards a peaceful life.

The Impact of Press in Hooky

Damien, Mark, and Aisha reading The Insurgent Witch in Hooky Webtoon Chapter 157
After the death of Alex, her two bandmates, Barry and Noah, put together a team during the war to bring the newspaper “The Insurgent Witch” to life. Alex and her friends strongly believed that the mages and the non-mages could live harmoniously. Barry and Noah kept her will alive through their secret newspaper company, “The Insurgent Witc.”. They distributed newspapers among mages and non-mages, spreading good word about witches, sharing stories, easy magic tricks for non-mages to learn, and many more. Their articles swayed the people enough to rebel against the governments, as they were already sick and tired of the war.
Monica – Hooky’s Hero

Angela Wytte cries for her wand to work in Hooky Chapter 171 after Monica laces her food with the nullifying potion.
Monica is the MVP of Hooky. She neither slid into depression nor sought out revenge after Angella Wytte murdered her parents. Instead, Monica built her secret lab right after the second king locked her up. She collected and protected the witches’ literature after the King ordered them to burn them all. By embracing magic like no other non-mages in the kingdom, she broke the stereotypes of magic and proved that it is for all.
However, Monica invented something that asks, “Will this stop the war? Or will it make it worse?” Monica relied on her strength for three years and mastered making potions, reading diligently, practicing fervently, and experimenting non-stop to concoct every potion known in the magical realm. Among those, the one that could change the war’s outcome was the magic nullification potion. She concocted the most potent weapon against witches, a potion that could permanently remove their power. How will she use it? What would the witches do if they found out? Moreover, how will this change the war?
