Your Ryan is a webtoon originally created by Baek Seolhond but adapted by Mongzzee and Socheock. The protagonist is Eloise Surbiton, a girl living in a peaceful town called Feltham with her family. She enjoys her life at Feltham and admires Lieutenant Ryan Wilgrave, her war hero, from afar. Little does she know the gruff stranger who moved into her near manor under the pretense of Ryan Thornton is in fact Ryan Wilgrave himself. Being the lively girl she is, the two often find themselves on opposite sides, often bickering and behaving in a very non-elegant manner. However, there is an undeniable chemistry between them that slowly emerges throughout the webtoon. Without further ado, let’s read Your Ryan Chapter 1-5!
Your Ryan Chapter 1: Who is Ryan Wilgrave?
Your Ryan Chapter 1 opens with Eloise, the protagonist, thinking about Feltham and how peaceful it is, away from mankind. She is called out of her reverie when her housemaid calls her down for breakfast. She recalls her mother crying about her illness and how she cannot be part of ‘high society’ in The Capital. Relieved from all that, she is yet again grateful for Feltham. As she washes her hands, the mailman calls out to her. When she asks about the events in the town, he tells her the women are trying to win the hearts of soldiers who returned from the war. She goes in and tells her father of the news, giggling.
Her father opens the mail and tells Eloise that a new steward is coming to Blissbury Park. She recalls the beautiful manor, which was left in the care of her father by his friend. She had considered it her second home and is now upset to know that a soldier will be occupying the manor, cutting her visits. When she realises the name of the soldier is Ryan, she immediately perks up, but her father assures her it’s not her Ryan. Sulking, she thinks of her brave Ryan, the great soldier who achieved many wonderful feats. She then asks her father when the new steward is set to come. Upon finding out he arrives soon, she rushes out, takes the carriage, and drives off to Blissbury Manor. On the way, she chides herself for keeping her nude drawings of Lt. Ryan in the manor.
Meet the Main Lead
Reaching the manor, she is relieved to find out the steward hadn’t arrived yet. Eloise runs inside and opens the cupboard, revealing multiple drawings. She recalls how her mother scolded her for drawing human models and how it’s ‘unbecoming for a lady.’ Eloise started secretly drawing them in Blissbury Manor. She quickly collects her drawings and tiptoes to the front door. Just then, a man stops her in her tracks. Shocked, she almost trips but is caught by a man wearing a long hooded cloak. She looks at the man and thwacks the bundle of papers against his head, mistaking him for a kidnapper and causing the papers to flutter about. The man takes a drawing and looks at her questioningly, asking if it’s Ryan Wilgrave.
Your Ryan Chapter 2: Dinner With Ryan
Your Ryan Chapter 2 begins as Eloise rushes to grab the rest of her drawings and runs with them when he calls her a pervert. Being very insulted, she calls for the maids and yells for help. She grabs a candle and holds it like a sword when the man makes a move towards her. When the maids reach them, the man asks them, ‘Who is this maid?’ At the same time, she calls him a kidnapper. The two stop in their tracks and look at each other, confused. The maids quickly interfere and introduce the two of them. Upon realising the man is the new steward, the two immediately become their elegant selves and bow down in greeting. While faking their pleasantries, the soldier makes another snide comment about her drawing and walks off.
Will He Tell Her Father?
Eloise goes back home and burns her drawings, thinking about the comment he passed. Meanwhile, Ryan Thornton looks at himself in the mirror and thinks of his original name, ‘Ryan Wilgrave’. He recalls how he made his sergeant take his place for his photos since he could not risk his identity being revealed to anyone. He then thinks of his arrival back to the capital, with the women wooing him and the number of love letters and gifts he had received. Ryan thinks of how his ‘hero’ title had soon been trampled upon by gossip and falsity, and how a well-wisher had offered his manor for him to rest.
Ryan then picks up a drawing of himself by Eloise and admires her audacity and skills. He then tosses it, annoyed by a certain part being too small. He then decides that he has to make sure she never comes back again. Meanwhile, at Eloise’s home, her father asks her if she went to Blissbury Manor the previous day and says the new steward had called her a ‘lively lady’. Embarrassed, she avoids eye contact, but is astonished when her father says the steward had called them for dinner that night, ending Your Ryan Chapter 2.
Your Ryan Chapter 3: Defensive Eloise
Your Ryan Chapter 3 opens with Eloise dreading the dinner and thinking of ways she can avoid the topic from ever coming up. As she wails about it at her gate, Ryan suddenly steps forward, saying this might be the right house since she is here. While she stammers, shocked to see him, he pulls out her drawing. Ripping it from his hand and crumpling it, she opens the gate and gives him a fake warm welcome. He tells her he cannot look after Blissbury Manor himself and will need her father’s help, and suggests she forget the events that had taken place earlier.
At the dinner, Eloise analyses how everything is perfect, except for Ryan Thornton and his fake gentlemanliness. As she finishes dinner, she is about to go up to her room when he overhears her father asking Ryan about Ryan Wilgrave. She quickly peeps around the drawing room, where they are now settled, and eavesdrops on them. As Ryan tries to avoid the topic, her father and his close friend probe him on.
Just then, the friend’s wife calls Wilgrave a coward and says a medal was wasted on him. Immediately, her husband steps in, explaining that her brother had died in the Ingon battle. Elois peeks into the room, waiting for him to defend their hero. She is shocked when he agrees with the woman and says the lieutenant deserves the criticism he gets. As he calls Lt. Ryan a coward who saved his own life, Eloise steps in, unable to handle her hero being defamed.
I Know Him Better!
Eloise’s father and their maid are shocked at her outburst, and they try to stop her. She says she disagrees with him, making Ryan say he had worked closely with the man and knows how he is. He reminds her she only knows him through newspapers and portraits. She holds on firm and says she knows him better than he could ever. The maid tells her to calm down and push down her affection for the Lieutenant. Immediately, Ryan is annoyed, thinking how he avoided the town to get away from girls like her. Just then, she retorts and asks if they think she is saying this out of blind devotion. She steps in front of the soldier and takes a book from behind him, making him flinch.Â
Pointing to facts, she showed him how Lt. Ryan had ordered a retreat in order to save his comrades from certain doom and told him to be more grateful to him. Immediately, Ryan started seeing her with new eyes, a woman who defended his criticism, the criticism that haunted him.
Your Ryan Chapter 4: Grounded Eloise
Your Ryan Chapter 4 begins with the soldier thanking her, and she tells him he should thank the Lieutenant instead. When he asks where she got all that information, she points out that it was in newspapers. Keeping her book back and wishing them a pleasant evening, she retreats to her room. The next scene shows her father apologising again as Ryan Thornton takes his leave. He brushes it off and asks him to let her know that he is grateful that she understands the lieutenant so much.
The next scene shows Eloise sulking in her room. She perks up when a stone hits her window and goes towards it to see her friend Abigail. She lets her know she’s grounded when Eloise’s father appears behind Abigail and tells her there are no exceptions to her grounding. As she counts down her days of punishment, girls swarm about their front door, asking about the handsome Sergeant Ryan Thornton. Her father shuts them all out, making her retreat to her canvas and angry drawings. As her days came to an end, she finished her portrait of a duck biting Ryan Thornton.
Go Meet Ryan
At the end of her punishment, her father requests that she go to Blissbury Manor to return books he had borrowed. As she agrees and is about to go, her mother asks her to dress better than that. Meanwhile, Ryan wakes up from a nightmare and goes over to the nearby pond. As he washes his face in it, he thinks of the traumatising nightmare and his own dark thoughts engulfing him. As he battles with them, he hears a carriage and looks over to see Eloise stepping out. Watching her, he is pulled out of a trance when she stomps her feet and yells he doesn’t want to see that sergeant again, ending Your Ryan Chapter 4.
Your Ryan Chapter 5: Caught Red Handed
Your Ryan Chapter 5 opens with Eloise’s exclamation, making Ryan hide behind a tree. She thinks of the apple pies her mother sent for the sergeant and decides to eat them herself. She sits down on the grass overlooking the lake and enjoys the pie while the sergeant watches her from behind. As she wonders if she should actually eat them all, he interrupts and asks her to at least leave him a piece. Startled, she slowly greets him and looks down at the last pie. She meekly offers him the pie, knowing that he will reject it since she asked merely out of courtesy. She is shocked again when he takes a piece and joins her.
As he takes a bite, he realises he cannot stop himself, and is shocked at the rate at which he is finishing the whole pie. Having finished the pie, he thanks her mother for sending the pies. Ashamed, she asks how much of her monologue he had heard, to which he replies from the beginning. She sarcastically praises his skill for silently observing her and silently fumes when he says it is a skill he is proud of. As he says its a skill that earned him a medal and his superior’s respect, she asks if Lt. Col. Ryan was one of them. The scene ends with Ryan looking at her and about to say something.
UH OH!
The next scene opens with Eloise telling her friends he had rudely gotten up and said he had urgent matters to attend to, making her promise she would never set foot there again. The girls immediately jumped to the fact that the Sergeant hadn’t been eating properly, which is why he devoured the pie. This had caused the news to spread like wildfire. The next scene shows the sergeant, undressing before the lake, but suddenly stopping when he hears a sound. Your Ryan Chapter 5 ends with an astonished yell.
