You must have read countless transportation stories where someone from our world transports into a fictional world, right? Usually, they become a side character or a villainess in the novel where the lead character isn’t like the novel portrays. But, what if the original female lead is nice and kind? The First Night With The Duke webtoon offers one such female protagonist and it might turn out to be one of your best reads.
Original Ripley Vs Current
The First Night with The Duke starts with the daughter of Count Liverpool, Ripley in a fantasy novel as an extra with no significance in the plot. But one day, everything changes in her life when she meets a magician. She gets an opportunity to exchange her soul with a 22-year-old college student from the real world, who, like the fantasy world character, is bored with her dull life and looking for some change.
After appearing in a fantasy novel, the current Ripley plans to enjoy her life as the daughter of a Count. However, this plan fails miserably one day she wakes up in bed with the male lead, Duke Zeronis. What’s more, he doesn’t want to avoid what happened and wants to take full responsibility, making her life more complicated.
Ripley And Zeronis: Duke’s Obsession
Ripley tries making him lose interest in her as the Duke is supposed to be with the female protagonist of the novel, Lady Etoile. Sadly, all her plans fail abruptly as the Duke’s interest in her keeps increasing each day. Eventually, she starts accepting his affection. But, things go down when Zeronis finds out about the plans she previously orchestrated to make him hate her and starts ignoring her, which throws her off. Then, she confronts him to know what’s going on, and they reconcile as Zeronis professes his unwavering love for her.
Rose’s Wicked Tricks
Ripley and Zeronis’s budding relationship infuriates her friend, Rose because she had a crush on Duke from the beginning. One night while drunk, out of anger and jealousy, Rose pushes her friend off the boat. However, Duke Zeronis, the hero of Ripley’s life appears at the right time and saves her. The next day she talks to Rose regarding the whole incident and warns her about the consequences.
But, the warning doesn’t stop Rose as she continues playing dirty tricks and tries killing her several times. Once she even kidnaps Ripley and tries killing her, but Zeronis saves her again. In another incident, Rose sneaked into her room in Zeronis’s absence to kill her as payback. But Sylvia, Ripley’s maid, saves her by risking her own life. They made out alive out of there but with multiple injuries. Rose’s facade continues throughout the First Night With the Duke webtoon, keeping the readers engaged about what’s going to happen next.

The Original Heroine
Lady Etoile, Baron Hailey’s adoptive, was meant to be the original female lead of the fantasy novel. However, Ripley’s unintentional deeds altered the entire plot and as an outcome, Duke Zeronis felt for her instead of Etoile.
Ripley starts feeling guilty for taking Etoile’s place. To make things somewhat better, she tries to be the matchmaker of the second male lead, Wright and Etoile. Miraculously it works, and they fall head over heels for each other. And amidst all this, Ripley and Etoile become much closer friends and remain so throughout the story. Later, they also started a business together to help each other’s parents. The business was based on the secret ointment of the Hailey household. Initially, due to a lack of customers, the business didn’t thrive but later it boomed after getting a deal from the second prince.
The War in The First Night With the Duke
When the second prince placed an enormous ointment order for the troops, Ripley and Etoile understood that a war was about to break out. And, the second prince also decides to send Zeronis to the Warfield as the general. Out of both love and fear, Ripley decides to marry Duke Zeronis before his departure.
Being a fantasy novel, mystery and manipulation are the key aspects. The war was a trap set up by the prince to kill Zeronis to become the sole Duke of the Empire. He even tried to seduce Ripley as a stepping stone for his selfish dreams. However, she decides to jump off the balcony instead of accepting the proposal. And like always, Zeronis arrives at the right time and saves her. As a consequence, the second prince gets confined in the Royal Cell for his sins. Later, Ripley and Zeronis receive titles and recognition for their efforts.
End of The World or The Happy Ending?
When things started to look like sun and sunshine, another bomb dropped. Ripley got a hint that the fantasy novel is about to conclude, Lol !!!. So she decided to confess everything to Zeronis about her not being the real character.
Meanwhile, Rose tried to kill Ripley yet again and, in the process, burnt the mansion. Although she made it out alive, she lost consciousness. In the next scene, it turns out she is now back in the real world, where she meets the real Ripley. They decide to become cursed so that life will stay in each other’s worlds forever. As it’s time for a sweet ending, Ripley and Zeronis finally have an official wedding, and they finally achieve their happily ever after as the curtains draw ……
