Shifting Tails by Cibeles is set in a world where humans and half-human-half-beasts exist. The story follows Euna, a weak boar-human who is a burden to her family. However, when a tiger attacks her secret village, she defends her town and takes the tiger down a cliff along with her. When she discovers the tiger has no memories, she quickly tells him that he is her cat and calls him Whiskers. She also tells him he is deeply in love with her, which he believes, since he has a feeling of protectiveness over her. Holding on to his only lifeline of memories, he follows her, and she puts up her pretense to protect her village. Without further delay, let’s read about Shifting Tails Chapter 1-3!
Shifting Tails Chapter 1: Meet Euna
Shifting Tails Chapter 1 opens with Euna admiring the life of half boar and half human people. She then thinks to herself how her people see her as a burden since her boar side is weaker than the rest of them. After foraging, the boars tell her to erase their trace and she does so with a branch. Once the boars are gone, she quietly goes near a tree and digs up her treasure of human coins. Despite being warned not to go near humans, she keeps the coins hidden with her. Euna then phases into a boar and follows her family.
As she goes into their hidden boar village, she notes that her village is very well hidden deep in the forest, where neither beast nor humans can find them. However, as she reaches her village, she finds out that a tiger had been following her trail and that she led it right to her village. She quickly recalls the giant boulder atop a cliff in their village and pushes it off the edge. As she does so, she loses balance, phases back to human, and falls along with it, taking the tiger down with her.
As they fall off the cliff, the tiger looks at the human girl, and phases into a man and tries to save her. He grabs a rock to break their fall, he loses his grip, and she apologizes for being too bulky. As they fall, she warns him to be careful, but he boasts about being a tiger who can control any cliff. However, as they near land, they find a jutting rock waiting for them. Shifting Tails Chapter 1 ends with the tiger realising his mistake.
Chapter 2: Tiger to Whiskers
Shifting Tails Chapter 2 opens with the tiger bashing his head on every rock jutting out of the cliff, determined to protect Euna. As they finally crash on the land, Euna looks at the unconscious tiger, grabs her clothes, and decides to make a run for it. As she walks away, her human side and boar side argue over whether to stay with the man who saved her life or to run from a tiger. When she argues, the tiger awakens and pulls her back, pinning her down and demanding to know who she is. Panicking, she keeps shifting nonstop and brings up reasons why he should not eat her.
Meanwhile, he holds his bleeding head and asks her why he has this feeling of protecting her. Realising he doesn’t remember anything, she quickly says he’s her cat and that they both are shapeshifters. Confused, he asks her why she asked him not to eat her, and she says he is deeply in love with her body and calls him a pervert. Confused as ever, he notes he does tend to eat her.
Lost His Memory
Gathering herself, she scolds him and says she’s already told him she hates it when his animal instincts take over, and tells him to sit down and be a gentleman. The tiger thinks to himself how part of him doesn’t want to let her go, but the protective side takes over, and he sits back.
Whiskers asks her how he shapeshifts into a cat, and she says he has to recall the first time he shifted. Noting it’s very convenient that neither does he recall that, nor does she know his first shapeshift. Standing up and crossing his arms, he asks her what his name is. She pauses before saying his name is Whiskers. She watches his reaction as it goes from shock to anger to calm. He leans over to her and asks if the love of his life will ever lie to him, and she shakes her head. As she gets up, he asks her how he can be taller than her if he’s just a cat.
Euna retorts, saying that he protects her when they are humans, and she protects him when they are animals, and so he fell in love. He gives her the benefit of the doubt and walks towards the cliffs. He notes how someone threw a rope for them and asks her if she loves him back, ending Shifting Tails Chapter 2.
Shifting Tails Chapter 3: Flashback of Instincts
Shifting Tails Chapter 3 begins with Euna looking at Whiskers and slowly says she is considering him. They climb the cliff and reach the top, finding the human-boars waiting for her. They quickly shift to boars when they see the tigerman is with her, and she loudly exclaims how ‘Kitty Whiskers’. People turn back and start applauding half-heartedly, eyeing Whiskers. She says she is going to take him to rest since he hit his head and does not remember anything.Â
Once inside, he sniffs around and says he smells a larger predator in their village. Thinking quickly, she hugs him and says she didn’t want to say it earlier, and explains they were attacked, and that’s how they ended up below the cliff. He sniffs about, making her worry, and he says he cannot smell himself in the room, nor can he smell anything other than a foul smell. Whiskers asks her the last time she cleaned her room and points out the sticky stuff and dirty plates all around. He growls when she comes up with lame excuses, and she quickly changes the topic to getting him some clothes.
She bandages his head, and he slowly thumps his forehead with hers. She notes how he looks so much like a predator. Her boar instincts kick in, and she turns around and runs. That triggers an immediate reaction from the tiger, making him pounce and grab her. He holds her close and says into her ear how he wants to hold her closer every time she turns his back on him, ending Shifting Tails Chapter 3.
