Operation: True Love has finally reached a romantic space with Su-ae and Eunhyeok’s first kiss. However, we know things will be more awkward and perplexing for a while. On the other hand, Dohwa is developing a romantic interest in Su-ae as well. Well, this is going to be a hell of a ride. Without further ado, let’s see what more drama unfolds in Operation True Love Chapter 49-54.

Su-ae And Eunhyeok’s Misunderstanding

Operation True Love Chapter 49: Insecure Ra-im

Operation True Love Chapter 49 begins with Su-ae tripping unable to handle Dohwa’s weight. He reveals that he was faking the limp, which prompts her to chase him.

Su-ae reaches home after 10 pm and sees Ra-im coming out of her room. Upon asking, she disclosed her concern since Su-ae was late and she was not picking up calls. But, after getting betrayed by her, all Su-ae cares about is her boundaries so she asks her again why she was in her room. Meanwhile, Ra-im wants to know who she was with all this time. Eunhyeok? Dohwa? (Wow, Ra-im is testing someone’s patience!) Stretching it a bit more, with a fake smile she says, “It just seems like you’ve gotten real close with my friends.” She clearly wants to remind Su-ae that whatever she has now is hers, showcasing her insecurities at the same time. We wouldn’t deny the fact that Ra-im is certainly one of the most interesting characters in the series.

In the next scene of Operation True Love Chapter 49, Su-ae sees her clothes clean and folded after getting into her room. She understands that’s why her sister was inside her room. Moreover, when their father texts Ra-im asking about Su-ae’s whereabouts. She lets him know that Su-ae is alright and the teacher likely confiscates her phone. (The fact that we can’t conclude her as a good or evil character makes her character more fascinating.) Later, Ra-im’s mind goes into a flashback of all the good moments with Eunhyeok and Dohwa and the photo booth pictures she saw in her sister’s room.

Eunhyeok’s Type 

The next day in school, Gwangmin asks Eunhyeok if he wants to set him up with someone. Su-ae is clearly pissed about this question and Eunhyeok replies with a firm no. But, his friend is dying to go on a double date and wants Eunhyeok to cooperate. He goes on to explain how this girl is tall and has long hair, much like RA-IM. (Oh, no!) And, hearing this Su-ae’s insecurities peak and she starts thinking about Ra-im and Eunhyeok together. Operation True Love Chapter 49 ends with Su-ae thinking perhaps the kiss was just an in-the-moment thing and nothing else. (Girl, stop overthinking, the guy is right there, beside you, all the time. But also, we understand you and your love point obsession!)

Chapter 50: Su-ae’s New Look

Operation True Love Chapter 50 is a continuation of Su-ae’s anxiety regarding Ra-im being Eunhyeok’s ideal type. This is the only thing going on in her head. Now, summer is here and it’s time to switch to summer uniforms and Su-ae decides to look more like her sister. (To get Eunhyeok’s attention! Things insecurities make you do!) Everyone is praising her long hair (it’s apparently a wig that she bought for a trip but forgot to wear) and this amount of attention is making her feel conscious about her new look. Finally, she approaches Eunhyeok, who is busy studying with earphones on but he doesn’t pay attention to her hair or try to compliment the new style. (That’s odd!)

Eunhyeok’s Confession

Su-ae’s summer plan goes downhill by lunchtime because the monitor takes her to the head teacher’s room. Her wig gets confiscated and they replace her skirt with a long one from the student’s office. She is struggling to go in front of everyone. The gym teacher asks Minu to find her but Eunhyeok raises his hand saying he will go. He finally finds her hiding and asks what happened to her. She realizes he noticed her new look but didn’t comment. She retorts, “Are you finally curious.” He calmly replies, “I was curious earlier too,” and turns her around and opens her short hair. “You looked uncomfortable, weren’t you?” he asks. She says, “But, you yourself like tall, mature girls with long hair…”

Seeking clarification, he asks if this is what she gathered from Gwangmin yesterday. He adds, “That’s nonsense. I’ve never thought anything like that in the first place. But now…I kind of like short hair.” (Eunhyeok being a charmer for the nth time!) He adds, “Why do you force yourself to change? JUST BE YOU.”

Operation True Love Chapter 51: Su-ae’s Love Points

Operation True Love Chapter 51 starts with Su-ae’s obsession with love points. After the little moment with Eunhyeok, which felt like a confession (“But now… I kind of like short hair”) she believes her love points have reached a hundred or something. Alas! It’s ZERO.

In the next scene, Su-ae looks resentful toward Eunhyeok and while asking what’s wrong, his elbow hits Sora and he immediately apologizes. Like thunder, it strikes Su-ae that there are several short-haired girls in the school. “Was it just my imagination that Eunhyeok liked me?”

Reaching home, Su-ae is again anxious about the love points, the mysterious man, and what will happen next. She believes she can increase her love points again. (But, HOW? What does this Marang President want?) This confidence is good but now Su-ae is certain that Eunhyeok doesn’t like her and she is acting cold towards him. (Poor Eunhyeok has no clue what’s wrong.) Now, he thinks it’s because he confessed to liking short hair. To make things worse, their seating arrangement changes and they are far away from each other. Operation True Love Chapter 51 ends with Su-ae feeling completely shut out.

Operation True Love Chapter 52: Su-ae And Eunhyeok

In Operation True Love Chapter 52 Su-ae feels unfamiliar in the same seat now and all she can think of is Eunhyeok. But now since he feels he has made her uncomfortable, he tries to avoid her at all cost. While in the washroom, she hears other girls talking about Eunhyeok and many girls have a one-sided crush on him. This makes Su-ae wonder what they have (or had) can’t be one-sided because they kissed. (We agree Su-ae, now just please talk to him.)

Back in class, Eunhyeok is wondering why Su-ae’s face is smudged with lipstick. (God knows what he is thinking about it?) On the other hand, she is wondering if he will miss their piano practice in the old art room. Well, seems like he didn’t. But, god the awkward air! She has a lot of questions and he doesn’t know how to start a conversation. Naturally, she is pressing all the wrong notes. When she asks Eunhyeok to help her out, he refuses. This compels her to say, “You don’t have to force yourself to come anymore. I’ll do it on my own.” After Eunhyeok stops her from walking away, she starts to vent and can’t help but blurt out, “Why are you acting so cold to me like you were in the beginning?” (She also wants to ask if the kiss was just an impulse.)

Suddenly, their classmates appear forcing them to hide in a tiny corner and there is almost no distance between their bodies. Operation True Love Chapter 52 ends with this tension between our main characters.

Operation True Love Chapter 53: Proper Hug!

“I think they’re all gone,” Eunhyeok says. Operation True Love Chapter 53 begins with the awkward tension between Su-ae and Eunhyeok. He confesses that he knows why she volunteered to play the piano. Meanwhile, Su-ae is curious why he is in her mind all day. Suddenly, she asks, “Eunhyeok, can I hug you? Can I hug you just once?” As soon as she hugs him, she pulls back feeling awkward. However, giving us another heart-warming moment he grabs her and gives her a proper hug. With a flustered face she says, “O-okay, that’s enough. I’m gonna go! Bye!” The first thing she does after walking away is check her love points. Again, to no one’s surprise, it’s zero. However, this time Su-ae is more suspicious than disappointed. She decides to trust her instinct, Eunhyeok’s beating heart and blushing face rather than the system. Su-ae new goal is ‘Visit Marang.’

Back in class, Su-ae learns that Dohwa hasn’t been coming to school for a while. She remembers him saying he works three part-time jobs – BBQ Restaurant, Laundromat, and Convenience Store. As the class ends, the teacher asks a boy to give the homework to Dohwa and let him know if he doesn’t show up next week, he will be in trouble. At that moment, Su-ae shows his number on her phone and says they are close and she will give it to him. Operation True Love Chapter 53 ends with Su-ae reaching his apartment and bumping into an exhausted Dohwa.

Chapter 54: Su-ae And Dohwa’s Bond

Operation True Love Chapter 54 begins with Su-ae dragging Dohwa into apartment 403. Reaching the door, he trips and falls on top of her. After covering him with blankets, she decides to go buy some medicines to help his fever. While trying to sleep, he thinks of the time his father beat him up badly. On the other hand, concerned, Su-ae can’t leave him alone in this condition, so she decides to read and eventually falls asleep. (One of the best features of Su-ae is that she is a great friend.)

When she wakes up, she sees Dohwa sitting in front of her watching him sleep. Feeling hungry, he decides to cook kimchi fried rice for both of them, while she blabbers about her journey to his apartment. Operation True Love Chapter 54 ends with Su-ae complimenting the food.
