My Clueless Love Diary Chapter 1: Meet Cho-Eun Hong

My Clueless Love Diary begins with a tall tower that peacefully gleams in the morning sunlight, hiding the chaos within. Inside the company building, several bodyguards run in a panic, realizing that the CEO had unexpectedly returned to Korea without warning. “I’m telling you she’s still as unpredictable as she was when she was a kid!” one of the men says. They swing her office door open and find the CEO, Cho-Eun Hong, perched on her desk with her back towards them.
A crowd of bodyguards kneel in front of her and greet her in chorus. She reaches for a new photo frame on her desk that an anonymous person dropped off for her. She looks at the graduation picture with the unknown character and says, “When we first met each other, I never imagined we’d end up getting married.” Her guards are shocked at the news of her engagement, and she explains that she’d met the person in college.
Flashback! Cho-Eun Hong narrates the exposition and calls her college days ‘the most awkward time of my (her) life’ and simultaneously ‘the time I (she) shined brightest’. To explain her first identity crisis, she whisks readers twenty-three years back to Jihwa New Town.
Cho-Eun at Kindergarten
Cho-Eun’s story begins as she’s being driven in a sleek black car by a nervous driver. The new hire desperately tries to please his young passenger, even playing her Spring season favourite Vivaldi on the radio. However, six-year-old Cho-Eun (granddaughter of Hongsal, the head of a powerful regional clan) tears up and asks her driver whether he knows the burden of being a leader. When the anxious man tells her that he can imagine, she sorrowfully tells him that she envies his ignorance and normalcy.
They arrive at kindergarten, and Cho-Eun storms out of the car, paying no attention to her poor driver. With her head held high, she ignores all the excessive courtesy from her teachers. A gathering of small kids who compliment Cho-Eun and ask her to be friends with them. She distastefully regards them as ‘childish’ (they’re children!)Â and assures herself that she’s different from those unambitious, ordinary kids. As she walks away, full of pride, the other kids immediately complain about Cho-Eun’s rudeness and how their parents always force them to talk to her.
Cho-Eun’s First Identity Crisis
Meanwhile, Cho-Eun walks into the library, still pondering her ‘tragic destiny’ and ‘lonely’ life as an extraordinary child. She plops down on a chair, thinking that if she ever found someone who could relate to her, she’d immediately fall in love. Miraculously, a dark-haired child appears in front of her. ‘He’s so beautiful,’ she thinks instantly. She claims to have found someone special like her and believes herself to be in love.
As if a switch was flipped, Cho-Eun transforms from an aloof, prideful child into an overenthusiastic one. She pesters him about himself and tells him that she wants to be his friend. Instead, he leans in and whispers that he hates her. He explains that her special treatment wasn’t because of her, it was because of her grandfather’s powerful position. He calls her a ‘stuck-up little princess’ and tells her to get over herself. Heartbroken, Cho-Eun begins sobbing. In seconds, her bodyguards enter the library and lock down the school (Cho-Eun crying equals Code Red).
The next few days, Cho-Eun begins obsessively reading books with the new goal of making friends. However, her efforts are vain as after the incident, she becomes homeschooled. Fourteen years later, her bodyguards discuss Cho-Eun’s freshman orientation with a mix of nostalgia and apprehension. They soon panic when they realize that Cho-Eun has escaped the orientation on her own. In a note left by her, she explicitly ordered her guards not to follow her. So, of course, they immediately begin sending men after her. Meanwhile, at the orientation venue, Cho-Eun, now twenty years old, pulls up on a Harley, concluding My Clueless Love Diary Chapter 1.
My Clueless Love Diary Chapter 2: Cho-Eun Meets Byeongmok and Miro

My Clueless Love Diary Chapter 2 begins a few hours before Cho-Eun’s dramatic entrance. Her bodyguard explains how, in his college days, he’d worn a leather jacket and driven a bike. Therefore, in an effort to be normal, Cho-Eun had arrived at her freshman orientation looking like a biker fashion model. Although she’d put work into appearing mundane, after kindergarten, she’d intensively studied about fitting in- Cho-Eun’s entrance irked many students who believed her to be ‘thirsty for attention’.
Cho-Eun Makes a Friend
Entering the lively atmosphere, Cho-Eun falls in love with the spectacular event. After approaching her, a student with glasses becomes offended that she doesn’t recognize him. He angrily introduces himself as Byeongmok Kim, the provisional student rep of her department and a high school valedictorian. The rest of the students become increasingly irritated with his egotistical boasts, however, Cho-Eun obliviously compliments him.
He asserts that he’d come to the extremely prestigious Daehan International University, the highest-ranked school in Asia, to be treated like royalty. Cho-Eun empathizes with him, confusing many students. He tells her that they’d become friends, not knowing what the term meant to her. She takes his glass to refill and shakes the bottle, trying to perform a skill that she’d been practicing for her first friend. However, her technique fails, and she spills the red drink all over her white dress.
A dark-haired student in a deep green suit approaches her and offers his handkerchief. She accepts it as he introduces himself as Miro Kang. Suddenly, she hears a commotion about men dressed like gangsters who are assembled outside. She awkwardly excuses herself, thinking she’d nailed her exit, and dashes away. She accidentally runs into a man talking into his phone. They collide and both their phones fall to the floor. In her rush, she picks up her phone and leaves the man without looking back. He watches her go and thinks, ‘Talk about a hit-and-run.’
My Clueless Love Diary Chapter 2 concludes as Cho-Eun drives her bike back home, excited for the college’s opening ceremony.
My Clueless Love Diary Chapter 3: Cho-Eun’s First Day at College

My Clueless Love Diary Chapter 3 begins as Cho-Eun wakes up on the day of the opening ceremony. At the college, two reporters interview the university students on live television. First, they talk to Byeongmok, who begins to lecture about his destiny, making them hurriedly search for another student to speak to. They come across a hilariously emotional girl, who says she’d always dreamt about being interviewed. Lastly, they talk to Cho-Eun, believing her to be ‘normal’, who excitedly blabbers about a huge list of her college life dreams. Baffled, the two reporters conclude their interview segment.
In the university auditorium, the President welcomes the students. As everyone claps, Cho-Eun makes a mental note to keep the President’s friendship with her grandfather a secret. After the speech, the students start filtering away to their respective classes. Cho-Eun notices with surprise that the students seemed to have made friends already. She realizes from the conversation of a student that she’d accidentally skipped the orientation afterparty. She remains optimistic, however, the whole day eventually whizzes by without her talking to anyone.
Cho-Eun Talks to Her Sister
At home, Cho-Eun’s bodyguards prepare her favourite dinner in anticipation of her unsuccessful interactions with the other students. Knowing her prideful attitude, they’d understood that she’d be alone at school. She cheerfully dismisses them and says that now she can find friends who’d risk their lives for her. The bodyguards, stunned with her statement, call her sister to deal with the situation. Her older sister, who’d been studying in New York, picks up the phone and tells Cho-Eun to drop out of university. She advises her that the fastest way to make friends is with money and hints at her possesion of their grandfather’s credit card. Angry after the conversation with her sister, Cho-Eun resolves to bond with students her own way.
The next day, Cho-Eun’s teacher gives the students a group project. The blonde girl sitting next to her asks Miro Kang to join her group. He agrees on the condition that Cho-Eun joins them too, shocking her and concluding Chapter 3.
My Clueless Love Diary Chapter 4: Group Project

My Clueless Love Diary Chapter 4 begins as Cho-Eun realizes that she’d forgotten to return Miro’s handkerchief and wonders if he was inviting her to their group to get it back. Therefore, when Yeonhui (the blonde girl) asks for her student ID number, Cho-Eun immediately denies. Yeonhui tells her that this is her best chance to gain friends, but Cho-Eun, grabbing Beongmok’s shirt and pointing to him, states that she already has one. Miro brightly bids farewell to them, saying that he’ll find another group too, and angers Yeonhui.
As he walks away, Miro thinks about the hypothesis he’d had that Cho-Eun wouldn’t remember him (bingo!). Meanwhile, Byeongmok- poor guy- tries to argue against Cho-Eun, who enthusiastically submits their group, nevertheless.
Later at home, Cho-Eun’s bodyguards note her cheerful mood. She explains to them that she was working on a project with her friend, Byeongmok. The guard calls the friendship ‘unexpected’ since she’d previously compared him to her cat, Chonkers, who was an arrogant and irritable creature.
Having a brief flashback, she recalls how she’d convinced Byeongmok to join her group. When he’d told her that he was leaving, Cho-Eun had agreed. However, she’d solemnly told him that it would cost a finger to do so, and he’d immediately resolved to stay put.
The next day, all the students realized with dread that their groups had been randomly assigned due to a technical error. By some coincidence, Cho-Eun’s new team is comprised of all the people she’d previously left. She joins Miro, Yeonhui, and a few others for a discussion. Although no one enjoys the position of group leader, Cho-Eun voluntarily nominates herself for the job. My Clueless Love Diary Chapter 4 concludes as Miro politely disagrees, saying that he wants to lead instead.
My Clueless Love Diary Chapter 5: Cho-Eun Confronts Miro

My Clueless Love Diary Chapter 5 begins with Miro asking to lead the group project. Yeonhui suspiciously wonders if he simply wanted the role to help Cho-Eun. Regardless, she stubbornly keeps the leadership for herself.
Later, she confronts Miro and asks if he has a problem with her. She further asserts the evidence that he’d always avoided her gaze and tells him to speak the truth. He tries to phrase his answer, knowing that if he said he was simply trying to help, he’d look uncool. She impatiently grabs his shirt and tells him to look at her, noticing his ears turn red. Escaping her grasp, Miro retains his composure, tells her not to worry about it, and walks away.
Meanwhile, at a shipyard, a bloody man sits with his hands bound to a chair. Two gangsters converse next to him. They greet their boss (the same man Cho-Eun had bumped into after the orientation) and give him a new phone. He angrily recalls how his previous phone had broken when Cho-Eun had collided with him. Furiously, he thinks of how she’d left without a single apology.
The goons give him information about Hongsal’s granddaughter and present him with her pictures. He eagerly goes through the photos and, to his astonishment, recognizes her as the girl who’d broken his phone, concluding My Clueless Love Diary Chapter 5.
My Clueless Love Diary Chapter 6: The New Student

My Clueless Love Diary Chapter 6 begins with a student meeting for the group project. Cho-Eun gives everyone her detailed notes on the topic and invites them to snack on the array of fine dishes in front of them. Although Yeonhui criticises her unconventionally extravagant hosting, Cho-Eun remains obliviously enthusiastic. The next day, Yeonhui challenges her to do the research herself, and Cho-Eun, triumphant, expresses her gratitude for the team’s trust in her (obviously, the girl is oblivious).
A few days later, Cho-Eun runs into Miro, feeling a little embarrassed about her previous outburst. In the time she’d spent with him for their project, she’d realized that he had a genuine, caring nature and began to admire him for his kindness. ‘What’s this feeling right now?’ she thinks, ‘Like a wind swirling around inside me…’
Later at the library, Cho-Eun finds that all the books on her topic are missing. Through the shelves, she spies Byeongmok working by himself and hastily plops into the chair opposite him. Byeongmok, annoyed, contemptuously tells her that he’s busy. Scanning the books on the table, Cho-Eun realizes that he’d taken all the books she needed. He explains that he’d always researched every team’s topics beforehand to ask better questions during the presentation. He reiterates that he was valedictorian and not someone who ‘gives up once they get to college’. Then, having finally ended the conversation with her, Byeongmok hurriedly takes his books and leaves.
Meanwhile, a group of students gossip about a newcomer who looks ‘cute’ but not ‘very nice’. My Clueless Love Diary Chapter 6 concludes as the new student is revealed to be the man whose phone Cho-Eun had unintentionally broken.
My Clueless Love Diary Chapter 7: Seok-Ho Runs into Cho-Eun, Literally (Again)

My Clueless Love Diary Chapter 7 begins as Byeongmok pants after running away from Cho-Eun at the library. His phone buzzes with messages from Yeonhui, who rudely reminds him that she was the one who’d gotten him into college (interesting…)
Later, the new undercover student, Seok-Ho Gu, impatiently gnaws on the straw of his drink. Even though it had been days since he’d arrived, he still hadn’t located Cho-Eun. An unknown number shows up on his phone, calling him for the umpteenth time. Seok-Ho finally picks up, and his Ta answers, asking him to show up for an orientation.
Storming through the hallway, Seok-Ho doesn’t watch where he’s going and crashes into someone. His phone falls to the floor for the second time. He looks up and recognizes the student in front of him: Cho-Eun. Angrily, he reminds her of the first time she’d broken his phone and asks for reimbursement. Before he can continue, Cho-Eun cheerfully requests reimbursement herself and points to the cracked laptop on the ground. She takes his number so they can repay each other (he doesn’t seem too happy about it anymore).
As she walks away, he suddenly runs to stop her and grabs the corner of her shirt. Immediately, Miro (obviously materializing out of nowhere) grabs Seok-Ho and tells him to let go of her. As they bicker, stuck in the same ridiculous position, the trio begins to attract a crowd of onlookers. Suddenly, a door swings open and their young Ta walks out, concluding Chapter 7.
My Clueless Love Diary Chapter 8: Yeonhui Makes a Scene

My Clueless Love Diary Chapter 8 begins as the TA introduces himself as Yuhyeon Cha. He ushers Cho-Eun and Seok-Ho inside, but stops Miro at the entrance. In a hushed voice, Miro tells him that they shouldn’t act like they know each other.
A while later, Yuhyeon pours coffee for the students. He gives Seok-Ho a timetable, who panics when he realizes he has to actually attend classes while undercover. He watches Cho-Eun, lost in thought about the revenge he wants to exact on the Hongsal clan, when she suddenly kills his train of thought. Cho-Eun offers to let him into their group and decides to personally assist him until he gets used to college life. Yuhyeon thinks about how she must be ‘the affectionate type,’ and Seok-Ho realizes that she wasn’t as wary as she should’ve been.
Later, Yeonhui storms to Cho-Eun and angrily reprimands her for dragging in ‘new group members off the street’. She accuses her of using the project as an excuse to spend time with Miro. Startled by Yeonhui’s sudden appearance, Cho-Eun karate chops the air in front of her. Although briefly startled, Yeonhui continues to shout. She catches sight of Byeongmok and tells him to take the new student. Students begin gathering to see the spectacle.
Yeonhui slaps him, using her family’s sponsorship of his studies to assert herself, and calls him a ‘clueless dork’. My Clueless Love Diary Chapter 8 concludes as Cho-Eun steps in, grabbing Yeonhui’s raised hand and tells her, “Friends don’t treat each other like that. Didn’t they teach you that in kindergarten?”
