Love Bites Chapter 20: When the Mighty Fall

Love Bites Chapter 20 begins with a restless Wednesday, where Kieran can’t help but notice something strange. Mason has been actively avoiding him since their awkward double date and that revealing phone call. The atmosphere between the two is getting thicker and difficult to overlook. Kieran notices that Mason does not want to be around him. And even appears cold towards Cella, which is even more confusing.
Cella proposes that the four of them (Cella, Mason, Kieran, and Maria) hang out and play Starlight Keep, which is an old favorite of hers, after school. Mason turns her down at once, with a clipped tone, saying that he has football practice. His strange behavior is noticed by both Kieran and Cella. As usual, Cella, the optimist, thinks that Mason is simply nervous about his upcoming football game and dismisses it. Still bubbly and cheerful, Maria adds in an excited voice that she would like to play. Cella lights up and she goes on chatting with Maria, discussing the game and unicorns. Both of them were laughing and chatting away.
Kieran watches the two girls and finds them so indifferent to Mason’s behaviour. Whereas he can sense a storm coming up. Perhaps he is overthinking it, he thinks to himself. Perhaps, Mason is really nervous about his football match. Nevertheless, his thoughts repeatedly go back to that phone call, the way Mason completely shut him off after their tense exchange.

On Friday night, Kieran feels that he has had enough and he must solve this puzzle. He goes to the stadium and sits in the stands alongside Cella and Maria, who is in her cheerleader spirit. During the game, Cella cheerfully informs Kieran that Maria has already bought matching costumes for them for their Halloween party. He sighs to himself as he is more frustrated than happy.
The game starts, and everyone is focused on the field. Lions versus Titans. When Mason steps out with the Titans, the crowd loudly cheers. Kieran watches, surprised at how effortlessly Mason attracts all the attention. This is his battleground, and the limelight seems to love and adore him. Kieran sees that this is where Mason thrives. Watching the game, Kieran can’t help but be impressed. On the field, Mason is quick and untouchable. No one can get him; he is a force of nature, and Kieran is spellbound. He has never paid much attention to football, but now, as he watches Mason play, something is amazing about it.
However, such an illusion does not last long. Mason cannot shine that easily, as the opposing team’s player, Andrews, is not ready to make this easy. He makes a hard move and traps Mason. The rest of the Titans rush to trap him, too, and the clash is brutal. Bodies slam into each other, the sound of pads colliding echoing across the field. Then it occurs, Mason gets hit. A tough, bone-crashing one. The audience breathes in shock. Kieran is standing in a state of paralysis with his eyes open in horror. “But no one is invincible. Not even Mason Kane.” Love Bites Chapter 20 ends with Kieran staring in shock, his heart thudding in his chest, as Mason gets caught in trouble.
What Happened So Far?

Kieran is a brooding young vampire who has never been close to anyone. He is plagued by the death of his mother in the claws of a wolf and is burdened by his power to charm. All this turns upside down when Mason, an attractive and mysterious werewolf, enrolls in his school, shaking Kieran and his so very controlled life. Initially, the two get along terribly, particularly as Mason begins to date the best friend of Kieran, Cella. Torn between loyalty to Cella, his hatred of wolves, and a growing attraction to Mason, Kieran is left confused and angry.
Their mutual hatred towards one another keeps spilling over into lingering stares and stolen kisses. That they both refuse to acknowledge, yet can not seem to resist. In the meantime, family pressure builds, as Kieran’s father pushes for peace between vampires and wolves. His older brother Cedric urges him to reject the pact and embrace his darker powers. Kieran is torn between the guilt over the death of his mother, the trauma of his childhood, and the fact that he cannot resist Mason.
In Love Bites Chapter 19, he goes to the grave of his mother. He remembers how she sacrificed and told him not to abuse his superpower. Cedric remains suspicious of Mason. And he tells Kieran that he is strong enough to put the wolf in his place when it is needed. However, deep down, Kieran does not know whether he wants to hurt Mason or embrace him. With the fragile peace between their species and their hearts hanging by a thread, Kieran’s next choice could change everything. What do you think about Love Bites Chapter 20?
