Jinx Chapter 74: Ruthless Beginnings

Jaekyung's former coach in Jinx Chapter 74
Jaekyung’s former coach in Jinx Chapter 74

In Jinx Chapter 74, Jaekyung hadn’t expected to see his former coach again. The sight alone stopped him in his tracks, shock deep on his face. He asked if the director was sick; of course, he was, but the old man’s response was sarcastic. The coach wasted no time before scolding Jaekyung for letting himself fall apart, criticizing his condition, and reminding him what a champion demands. He then left the place with Dan. Later that evening, Dan stood at the sink, scrubbing dishes with furrowed brows. His thoughts were consumed by Jaekyung; the man, the fighter, the confusing mess of emotions. Meeting his former coach had stirred something in Dan. Jaekyung had once been a rookie too, young and full of fire. Their similarities weren’t hard to spot; the arguments, the temper, the stubbornness. But what truly lingered was the knowledge that Jaekyung was sick. Memories from that day came flooding back. Jaekyung’s upcoming match, the drinking, the public scene, the cold splash of water… and that one hug that had felt far too intimate, like Jaekyung was holding onto something slipping away. Dan couldn’t help but wonder what exactly Jaekyung wanted from him.

The Old Coach and the Ghosts of Youth

The next morning, Jaekyung returned to the hospital, only to be met with the same sharp tongue. His former coach yelled at him again, this time for showing up empty-handed and for every poor choice he’d made in the past. Yet behind all the nagging, their banter carried warmth. Raw, familiar, almost fatherly. Later that day, Jaekyung briefly met Dan and told him to sleep separately for a while. That night, Jaekyung lay alone, his body aching and mind drifting. Elsewhere, Dan checked on his grandmother, only to be drawn into a commotion about someone watching a match too loudly. It was Jaekyung’s coach, absorbed in analyzing players, scribbling notes like it was his lifeline. Dan joined him, and as they watched in silence, a photo slipped from the coach’s notebook. A group of young trainees. Among them, a fierce-eyed boy: young Jaekyung. When Dan asked about him, the coach’s voice turned distant. Jaekyung had always been different. Ruthless in a way no one else was. With a glimpse of Jaekyung’s past, Jinx chapter 74 ends.

Jinx Chapter 75: Little Jaekyung

Jinx Chapter 75 shifts twenty years into the past, when Jaekyung was a bruised child no older than six. The coach had first spotted him sneaking around to steal milk. But just as he was about to stop him, his gaze locked onto the boy’s battered body. Cuts, bruises, a busted lip, and too many injuries for someone so young. When questioned, Jaekyung pushed him away with a defensive growl and bolted, clutching the milk like it was a treasure. Hiding under a thin blanket, he drank in silence, eyes sharp with hunger. Later that night, a drunken man stumbled into the room. His father. A known mobster, who used his fists for fun and his own son as a punching bag. That night, Jaekyung lay curled in the corner of the room, blood drying under his nose, his stomach empty. His mother had long since disappeared, leaving him with nothing but silence and violence.

Before The Champion

The next morning, Jaekyung returned to steal milk again, but this time, he was caught. Instead of punishment, the man offered him a bun and a carton of milk. It became a routine. Jaekyung opened up bit by bit, revealing a fractured life and a legacy in boxing. His father had once been a respected name in the sport before losing it all to crime. He asked Jaekyung if he wanted to learn how to box, fight, make money, and have a chance to change his life. Jaekyung hesitated but followed him to a small center that trained underprivileged kids. A kind woman greeted him with warmth and a bowl of noodles, and for the first time in a long time, Jaekyung sat among children his age. But cruelty still lingered. Some kids mocked his smell, then later ganged up on him with helmets and fists. Though the coach stepped in, the damage was done. Still, Jaekyung stayed. First for the food, then for the fight.

He began to train. At night, he would visit a phone booth, dialing a number he could never reach. One day, he spotted a championship poster. Money, fame, and a way out. He told the coach he wanted in. He trained hard, losing more than he won, but never stopped. And then, one night at the booth, he left a voicemail.

“Mom… When are you coming back? Are you still scared of Dad? One day, I’ll make a lot of money and stop him. So can you come back home? I’ll work really hard, I swear.”

Jinx Chapter 76: Worth It!

The story presses forward with Jinx Chapter 76, revealing the relentless days of a young Jaekyung hustling through life. Delivering newspapers at dawn, hauling boxes in the market, and even lifting bricks at construction sites. He did whatever it took to save money for college and keep his boxing dream alive. He sits across from a career counselor, but their suggestions fall on deaf ears. All he sees is boxing. Jaekyung doesn’t say anything. He storms out, eyes set on the ring and nothing else.

The gym, once full of energy, is now a shell of itself. Most of the trainees had already dropped out, lured by the quick money of gang life. Boxing was hard, and it paid little. Still, his coach stood firm, his beliefs unshaken. He ordered Jaekyung to pick up the rope and start skipping. And without complaint, Jaekyung obeyed. That night, on his way home, Jaekyung bumped into a group of young men. They now worked under a local gang and extended the offer to him. Jaekyung refused. Watching from a distance, cloaked in shadows, was Baek Jumin, his eyes already calculating the profit in Jaekyung’s stubbornness.

A Trophy Too Late

Returning home, Jaekyung was greeted by the stench of alcohol and despair. His father, drunk and half-conscious, lay surrounded by empty bottles and syringes. Jaekyung turned to leave, deciding to sleep at the gym. But his father’s voice stopped him. Bitter, violent. He accused Jaekyung of betrayal, of being worthless like his mother. Then came the final blow, a glass bottle cracked against Jaekyung’s head, blood dripping slowly down his face. But something shifted. He wouldn’t cry. He wouldn’t flinch. He’d win. He had to win.

And he did. Against the odds, Jaekyung dominated the championship, claiming first place. With the trophy clutched tightly, he ran home, heart pounding. Not for glory, but for validation. To show his father he wasn’t a loser. That he was something. But when he arrived, silence greeted him. His father lay lifeless, with foam at his mouth, eyes blank. The trophy slipped from Jaekyung’s hands and clattered to the ground. And just like that, everything he fought for fell into a void.

Jinx Chapter 77: The Path He Chose

Jinx Chapter 77 continues with Jaekyung standing alone at his father’s funeral. The only other presence was his coach, quietly paying his respects. No relatives. No friends. Just silence. That evening, Jaekyung clutched a phone tightly in his hand, dialing the one number that still mattered. His mother answers. He tells her the news. His father is gone, and now they can live together again. He even says he has enough saved from part-time jobs to make it work. But her response is final. She’s remarried, and she doesn’t want to be contacted anymore. Just like that, Jaekyung’s last hope shatters. His hands tremble, and then rage erupts. He smashes his phone on the ground and kicks it, over and over, until there’s nothing left but broken plastic and silence.

From that day on, Jaekyung never returned to the gym. Instead, he wandered into the waiting arms of the very people he once walked away from. They welcomed him, but the streets had their own price. They pushed him to sell drugs, something he refused. So they made him fight, break bones, and follow orders. Among them was Baek Jumin, who constantly challenged Jaekyung. The coach saw him again at a police station, arrested for vandalism and public violence. Since he had no guardian, the police called the coach. The moment he arrived, he smacked Jaekyung across the face; furious, heartbroken. Was this what all their years of training had amounted to?

New Beginnings

After they were released, the coach hit him again, this time in the gut. When Jaekyung dared to grab his collar. He reminded him that his mother had cared for Jaekyung like her own, especially because he was weaker than the others. He told him to stop running and return to boxing, to the life he once chose. Something flickered in Jaekyung’s eyes. But the next morning, he made a different decision. He left the gym, not to give up, but to rise on his own terms. To make a name. To win. That was the last time the coach ever saw him. The flashback ends. In the present, the old coach sits with Kim Dan, who stares ahead in stunned silence. He never imagined Jaekyung’s past was so painful. Elsewhere, Jaekyung lies in bed, sick from a cold, memories swirling in his feverish mind—his first day at Team Black, a new coach, a new chance, a different future. And with that, Jinx Chapter 77 comes to an end. What do you think about the BL Manhwa Jinx Chapter 74-77? Stay tuned for the next chapters!
