In Between follows Eunseo and Sihwa’s unconventional friendship amidst the drama of college life. Handsome without mercy, Sihwa enjoyed his place in the spotlight of every girl’s daydreams and (knowingly or unknowingly) manipulated everyone, including his stubborn best friend, in his life. Can he pull himself together well enough to deserve Eunseo? Previously in In Between, Eunseo meets Hyeon, the newest member of Haerang’s club, and trains hard in her uncomfortable shoes; meanwhile, Sihwa heads home for his mother’s death anniversary (which does not go well). After going MIA for an entire day, Sihwa returns to Eunseo with a bleeding hand and a heart suffering from sorrow. The next morning, she wakes up to find Sihwa standing over her without a shirt… what happened? Let’s find out in In Between Chapter 29-35!
In Between Chapter 29: Amnesia Of The Night Before
In Between Chapter 29 begins as a shirtless Sihwa looms over Eunseo and offers to let her shower first. Tangled in the sheets in her bed, Eunseo’s mind whirls as she tries to recollect the night. Her heart pounds as she thinks, ‘No, it can’t be what I’m thinking… right?’
A sudden flashback reminds her of before- she’d gotten drunk with Sihwa. When her throbbing muscles and the marks on his shoulder send her into a panic, she tries to get Sihwa to open up about what happened. “Have you forgotten everything? Or are you pretending you don’t remember?” he asks, getting dangerously close to her, “I’m a little bit hurt.”
Flustered beyond words, Eunseo feigns a moment of realization to stop him from speaking. Yes, she definitely knew what happened! She’d assumed the worst before, but maybe it was what she was thinking. Sihwa asks Eunseo to take responsibility, causing her to spiral further into a whirlpool of confusion. The next day, Eunseo begins to avoid Sihwa harder than a car swerving around the most lethal pothole. After a long day of ignoring his texts and hiding from him, he finally catches her, concluding In Between Chapter 29.
In Between Chapter 30: Evidence, Footage, and A Mystery to Solve
In Between Chapter 30 begins as Sihwa remembers how drunk Eunseo had ranted about his habit of frequently ghosting her. He’d never realized how upset she was with his actions until her half-conscious, furious rambling the night before. He moves closer to her and shifts to a more serious tone, saying, “Do you seriously think we slept together?”
Sihwa acts insulted at the idea that he’d ever do something like that; he was ‘beyond disappointed’ at her demeaningly low opinion of him. He moves to walk away in a huff when Eunseo holds him back. She points to the scratches on his exposed skin. What were they?
Sihwa explains that Eunseo had attacked him (a job well done) when he’d tried to drag her back home. She’d embarked on a Sihwa-centric warpath, leading to the nail marks- and even bite marks- on his skin. Angrily, Eunseo accuses him of unfairly toying with her emotions instead of coming out clean. “It was just a little prank. Is that so bad?” he asks innocently, lighting a fire to Eunseo’s tank of gasoline.
For further evidence, Sihwa hands Eunseo a video he took on his phone. Through the cracked screen, Eunseo watches herself throw a tantrum that would make a bratty two-year-old proud. Sihwa asks a bewildered, flabbergasted, and thoroughly humiliated Eunseo if she believed him now, concluding In Between Chapter 30.
In Between Chapter 31: The Sincerity Behind An Act
In Between Chapter 31 begins as Sihwa further explains himself. He would have told Eunseo of his little joke before, but she kept avoiding him. He grumpily sits in a corner, brooding over the fact that she thought he was a terrible person- and he’d even taken care of her!- out loud.
Eunseo meekly apologizes, taking into account that she’d vomited on him for the second time. She takes his bruised knuckles- red and prominent thanks to Eunseo- into her hand and carefully bandages them. While she concentrates on his hand, Sihwa playfully bumps her and makes her promise not to avoid him again. He clasps her hand within his, saying, “I don’t like it when you avoid me.”
At that moment, Yuna calls Sihwa and asks to meet him the next day. When Eunseo gets up to leave, Sihwa pauses his conversation over the phone to ask her to walk to school with him. Flustered and slightly startled, Eunseo agrees in an annoyed grumble. Then Sihwa goes back to Yuna to tell her that he wouldn’t be able to meet her. He was busy all day. Overhearing the statement, Eunseo rolls her eyes. Yeah, right.
That night, Sihwa watches Eunseo peacefully sleep in her bed. “Why do you like me?” he asks her as she stirs in her sleep. He asks her, out loud, if it was because of his ‘face and body’. When she drowsily agrees, he tells her he wishes there was a bigger reason behind it. Sihwa asks her to continue to care for him. Eunseo doesn’t reply, having completely descended into a deep sleep, and a furious blush spreads across Sihwa’s face, concluding In Between Chapter 31.
In Between Chapter 32: A Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes
In Between Chapter 32 begins as Yuna approaches Sihwa on campus, where he sits alone after class. She tries to tempt him to spend time with her again… but miserably fails when he gets up and leaves to meet Eunseo (although she hasn’t even responded to his texts yet!).
Meanwhile, Eunseo reads Sihwa’s numerous texts and wonders how to respond to his childlike whining. When she walks out of her classroom with Haerang, Sihwa immediately appears beside her-or rather, right in her face. He confronts Eunseo about breaking her promise of walking with him to school. “I hope you didn’t bail on me on purpose,” he says, giving her puppy eyes.
As they begin earning stares from everyone on campus, including Haerang, Eunseo grabs Sihwa and drags him away from prying eyes. She scolds him for making such a fuss in public. What if everyone got the wrong idea? But Sihwa has his own bone to pick with her. He let her know how offended he felt that she’d ditched him in the morning. Eunseo calls his words ’empty,’ prompting Sihwa to turn serious. ‘Everything I say to you is sincere,” he says truthfully, making Eunseo’s eyes widen.
Later, Sihwa tricks Eunseo into visiting a store for footwear. He insists on buying Eunseo comfortable shoes against her policy of ‘gritting her teeth and wearing thick socks’. Eunseo loses out to Sihwa’s argument (‘I don’t like seeing you in pain’) and eventually tries on white sport sneakers. Like the Prince Charming to Eunseo’s Cinderella, Sihwa slips them onto her feet, ties the laces, and adjusts the heel. Eunseo abruptly stands up and blushes while looking at him, concluding In Between Chapter 32.
In Between Chapter 33: Catch Wind Of His Fandom
In Between Chapter 33 begins as Eunseo rushes away from Sihwa to look at herself in a mirror, making him laugh. She turns to ask him for his opinion of the two pairs she’d picked. But she loses enthusiasm when she sees him flirting with the cashier. Never mind.
One purchase later, Eunseo walks side-by-side with Sihwa in her new white shoes. Sihwa sincerely requests to join Haerang’s exercise club, saying that he’d be completely fine. After all, he’d be with her. During the club meeting, Eunseo stretches her limbs with Haerang. Haerang, noticing her drained face, guesses that her tiredness must be because of the horde of people pestering her about Sihwa. ‘It’s not like this is new,’ is all Eunseo can think. Hyeon approaches them, and moments later, so does Sihwa. Surprising Eunseo with his appearance, Sihwa promises to bring Yu-an next time, turning Haerang pink with enthusiasm.
A few rounds of badminton later, Haerang fawns over Eunseo’s shoes while Sihwa watches with satisfaction. But it isn’t just Haerang who’d noticed her brand new kicks… Hyeon watches with curiosity, too.
As they sprawl onto the field for a break, Sihwa notices that Eunseo is sweating. He feels her neck and decides that she is burning up. When he insists on fanning her, Eunseo pushes him away in embarrassment. He even goes far enough to say that she smelled ‘like she always did’. So when Hyeon gets up to buy water, Eunseo stands up too. Anything to escape the humiliation! Sihwa watches her walk away with a faint smile lighting up his face. In Between Chapter 33 concludes as Haerang almost connects the dots… but gets distracted by a man eating ice cream in the distance. She was hungry.
In Between Chapter 34: Love Smells Like Grass
In Between Chapter 34 begins as Hyeon gets up to wash his face. An old woman lies in the hospital bed beside him; he’d been sitting with her for a while now. As he walks out of the room, he runs into the doctor. Hyeon tells her that ‘she’ seemed okay, and asks for time to pay the medical bill. However, she tells him that it was ‘no longer a problem’, making him clench his jaw in silent frustration.
Meanwhile, Eunseo browses perfumes with some difficulty. After sniffing at least a hundred, she’d lost the ability to differentiate between any of them. Scents once distinguishable mingle in her head, forming the world’s most expensive-smelling Sunday porridge.
Sihwa- out of thin air- appears behind her and begins spewing knowledge about Eunseo’s preferences like a psychic. Knowing (somehow) that she liked grassy scents, he picks out a bottle for her. Although Eunseo seems skeptical at first, she immediately falls in love with it. She suddenly remembers a day from their childhood. On the beach, Eunseo had told Shwa that she preferred mountain air to the seashore. Could it be that he remembered?
Drive An Arrow Into Her Heart
That night, Eunseo couldn’t sleep. She glances at the perfume bottle next to her and blushes. Sihwa had bought it for her as a gift. Why? What did that mean?!
The next morning, Eunseo runs late for class. Seeing her in a rush, Sihwa offers to give her a ride. In the car, she can’t stop thinking about Sihwa’s recent gestures. Eunseo tries to convince herself that they didn’t mean anything, and stares straight ahead in determination. Hilariously misinterpreting her weird posture for patiently waiting, Sihwa leans over and buckles her seatbelt for her. He drives her to college, and, not having a class, decides to nap in his car. He hadn’t slept much the previous night (wait… why?). Sihwa makes Eunseo promise to get lunch with him to make up for chauffeuring her, concluding In Between Chapter 34.
In Between Chapter 35: Picture Perfect Moment
In Between Chapter 35 begins as Eunseo notices Sihwa’s slick back in his driver’s license. She laughs at the photo. He looked hilarious! But the joke backfires on her when Sihwa asks to see her ID. When she refuses to take it out, she’d be buried with the secret of her photo- Sihwa tries to snatch her purse away. He stands up on his tiptoes, looking at Eunseo’s ‘cute’ ID picture. He waves it out of her reach, while she jumps around to get it back, and the cashier watches them with a knowing smile.
Suddenly, Eunseo slips and nearly falls… but, in the classic rom-com move, Sihwa catches her. He hugs her to his chest and doesn’t let go. Eunseo rests her head on him, wondering wildly what is happening. A moment later, she regains her senses and pushes him away. She asks him his height and boxes his ears for being too tall (classic Eunseo). Yelling at him, she rushes away. Sihwa watches her go with a faint blush creeping into his cheeks.
Diagnosis: Heartsickness
Later, Eunseo drops off clothes for her mother at the hospital. While she walks through the corridors, she spies Hyeon and wonders if he is sick. After leaving, Eunseo notices him again on the opposite side of the pavement. He was fighting with the same senior college students again. She wasn’t concerned; he could fight (and he was pretty scary, too!). But when she looks a little closer, she realizes that he was letting them hit him. Was he really sick?
Eunseo rushes to him just as the upperclassmen leave. She touches the red mark on his face before pulling her hand away. She shouldn’t have touched him. The brief contact reminds Hyeon of his sick grandmother. He clenches his jaw- his grandmother had always nagged at him to stop doing it- and forms a fist instead. Out of the blue, he asks Eunseo out for drinks, concluding In Between Chapter 35.
