In Down to Earth Chapter 35-44, we see how our star couple gets closer to Ethan and begins to trust him. In addition to that, Zaida gets a job opportunity, and Kade reunites with his manager and gets his old job back, but there’s a catch. Without further delay, let’s get into it, shall we?
Down to Earth Chapter 35-44: Kade, Zaida, And Ethan
Down to Earth Chapter 35: Losing Control
In Down to Earth Chapter 35, Kade asks why Zaida is on his lap, and when she apologizes and is about to move, he stops her. His inner self is astounded by his response but nonetheless assures her that their current seating position is fine. She asks him to close his eyes once again and gets close while he maintains a blank mind. Suddenly she pokes her finger through his ear hole and is fascinated by it. She then asks about his tattoos and loves how humans are so unique on Earth, unlike Zodia. She expresses her desire to get ‘ear jewels’ too and thanks Kade for looking after her and satisfying her curiosity. He is awed at Zay’s kindness and wants to respect her the way she does him.
He is pulled out of his thoughts when Zay asks about getting ear piercings like Kade. They talk about how he could get a piercing gun for her and do it himself, and she picks the jewels. He finds her excitement cute and is surprised by his thoughts. Zay then resumes using her ability on him, and he struggles to keep his thoughts controlled. He thinks about her soft hands, the smell of his body wash on her, the way she gets close to him. Losing control of himself, he hugs her tight and nuzzles her neck. Down to Earth Chapter 35 ends with Kade wanting to bite into her neck and thinking one taste wouldn’t hurt.
Chapter 36: A Not-So-Friendly Get-Together
Following Down to Earth Chapter 35, Kade pushes Zaida away from him, fighting his urges and admitting that he had thoughts that he didn’t wish her to see. He says how he can’t seem to control himself and decides to do it some other day. Kade goes out onto the porch, thinking how he cannot let her see that side of him. He takes out his phone and seeks help from the only person he can.
In the next scene, they are at a Japanese restaurant with Ethan. Before beginning, Kade states how he knows that Ethan isn’t here for him but for Zaida and that he should not pretend this is a ‘friendly get-together’. Ethan processes that and then moves on to the task ahead. After a tiring session, Ethan suggests how they had enough for a day. He jumps at the opportunity and heads off, thanking Ethan. However, Ethan stops them, demanding payment. Exasperated, he takes out his wallet, but Ethan has other plans in mind.
The next scene shows the trio at an arcade and Ethan wanting to try some new games. He and Kade talk about their favourite games while she sees some plushies and approaches them. She takes one and turns, bumping into another guy. Down to Earth Chapter 36 ends with Zay apologizing and looking up to reveal the person to be Stace, Kade’s ex-manager.
Down to Earth Chapter 37: An Acquaintance
Down to Earth Chapter 37 shows Zaida apologizing to Stace, who can’t seem to form coherent sentences. He turns away, trying to regain control, and is embarrassed at how hard he’s blushing. She asks if he’s alright, to which Stace responds quickly and asks her about her hurt nose. She admits to it stinging a bit and saying how his chest was very firm. Zaida’s beauty mesmerizes Stace, as does the way she glows. He picks up the plushie she dropped and hands it to her. Their hands touch slightly, which results in an immediate reaction from Stace.
Zaida thanked him and was about to leave when Stace tugged at her sleeve, stopping her. He confessed how pretty she was, causing her to glow and thank him. Stace was about to ask her something when Kade suddenly appeared and grabbed Stace’s arm, which was still holding onto her sleeve. Stace, shocked and refusing to say his name right, exclaimed, ‘Katherine! ‘ which irked him even more.
They start a slow-burning argument about work and are about to get into it when Zaida interrupts. Stace is dumbfounded when he finds out they know each other. Kade gets possessive, puts an arm around her, and is about to call her his girlfriend when she cuts in and proclaims herself as his friend. She introduces herself, and he is annoyed at the lost opportunity to get Stace off their back. He asks Stace what he is about to ask her, at which Stace gets down on one knee, pulls out a card from his pocket, and offers Zaida to be a model for Spender’s Fashion.
Chapter 38: Offer
Down to Earth Chapter 38 shows how Zaida is speechless at his offer. However, Kade is not and gives an immediate ‘NO.’ Stace, irritated, stands up and states how its her decision to make, at which she apologizes and declines. Stace is disappointed but hands out the card to her nonetheless and asks her to contact him if she has any concerns. He introduces himself and declares how he would love to have someone like her modelling for Spender’s unique fashion. He goes away hoping she will reconsider and calls her beauty ‘otherworldly’.
The next scene of Down to Earth Chapter 38 shows Kade and Zaida driving back home. She ponders about the offer and expresses how she would like to be part of something unique. He is astonished she is considering the offer and explains to her what exactly modelling is and how different their clothes are. Zaida, unaware of the point he’s making, gets even more excited. She says she could even earn money from this as it is a ‘job’ and she would like to work there. However, she leaves the last decision up to him and says that she trusts him more than anyone. Kade blushes at that and pats her head, saying how he, too, trusts her. They leave the topic for further discussion and drive in amicable silence.
Chapter 38.1: Coincidence
Down to Earth Chapter 38 shows Kade at work, ringing up the same person who had stalked him earlier. She asks about his job at Spender’s and is slightly hurt when he doesn’t recognize her. She mentioned their last encounter at MallMart when he was with his ‘girlfriend,’ which confuses him even more. He apologizes for not recognizing her and admits how he isn’t very social. She confesses that she has wanted to talk to him like this for quite a while and that he is the reason she has visited Spender’s so often. He is flabbergasted, and before he can process it, the girl dashes off, declaring that she is his number one fan. He reminisces about his old job and says aloud that he would give anything to have it back. Down to Earth Chapter 38 ends with Stace coincidentally appearing before him with a proposition.
Down to Earth Chapter 39: The Proposition
Down to Earth Chapter 39 begins with Kade returning home exhausted and finding Zaida drawing. He is impressed at how quickly she has improved, and she thanks him for encouraging and believing in her. He talks to Zay about modelling and says that if she really wants to do it, then he won’t stop her. Zay is surprised at his sudden change, and he reveals that he got his old job back.
The scene shifts to when Stace had proposed to give him his job back if he hung out with him. Kade declined, knowing his intention was to get closer to Zay which Stace admits. However, he admits to wanting to know him better too and how it would be a win-win situation.
The next scene shows him back at Spender’s and enjoying everything he took for granted earlier. Just as he thought nothing could ruin this bliss, he sees the girl who had called him a pervert behind the reception of Spender’s, wearing an ID Card. Down to Earth Chapter 39 concludes with the question of the girl’s job at Spender’s.
Chapter 40: Kade’s Co-worker
Down to Earth Chapter 40 starts with Kade approaching Stace regarding the new girl at the counter. Stace pretends to forget to mention the fact that he had hired another person to fill his position. Stace suggests socializing might make it less awkward, at which he proclaims his hate for Stace.
Back at the counter, the new girl and Kade are together and have no work to do. She suggests that they both need not be at the counter, at which he points out there is no other work. The girl goes over to a cloth rack and pushes off the cloth hangers. She returns to the counter and tells him he could go clean that up, hoping to lighten the mood. However, he bitterly apologizes for bothering her so much and goes off to clean up the mess.
Back at home, Zaida is sketching with Cosmo as her model and thanks the cat for being there while Kade’s away. Just as she confesses how it feels like he will never return, the front door opens. Happy and glowing, Zay floats over to the hall to greet him, but he finds him all depressed. Down to Earth Chapter 40 ends with him admitting to feeling defeated.
Down to Earth Chapter 41: Vent
Down to Earth Chapter 41 begins with Zaida pulling Kade to the couch and trying to get him to talk about work. He says he just wants to lie down, at which Zay offers her lap as a pillow. He blushes and declines, and Zay pulls him towards her and gently places his head on her lap. Initially uneasy, he calms down and vents about his day to her. He admits how everything is so tiring and how he just wants to stay in and sleep all day. Zay is proud of him for opening up to her, and she soothes him by saying how this will pass. Kade opens the door to Ethan, demanding to know where he is. He fills him in on how he quit the job at Mallmart and invites him in.
In the next scene, the three of them are playing video games and bummed out at the way the new girl had treated Kade. Ethan suggests giving no reaction in order to win against her and asks Kade to keep updating him and not just Zay, ending Down to Earth Chapter 41.
Chapter 42: Strategy
Down to Earth Chapter 42 opens with Kade and Zay doing the dishes and mentally preparing themselves for work. Zay pats his head, encourages him, and asks him how they can talk it out if it goes bad.
At work, Kade is folding clothes while the new girl is at the counter. She goes over to him and says how she is way better at folding at which Kade tosses the T-shirt at her and walks away. While he is at the counter, they get new stock, and the newbie asks him for help unloading it. The first box happens to be of lingerie, and when he stares, she calls him a pervert. Annoyed, he is about to walk away when she stops him and notes how sensitive he is to a guy. She says that she was messing around with him and didn’t mean to offend him. She reveals how it is her way of starting a conversation, and despite being wary, Kade plays along.
Throughout work, she continues to annoy him, and Kade struggles to maintain the no-reaction face. Exasperated, he asks Stace for an early lunch to clear his head. Down to Earth Chapter 42 ends with Stace offering to join him for lunch.
Down to Earth Chapter 43: An Unlikely Friendship
Down to Earth Chapter 43 begins with Stace asking for Kade’s lunch spot and waving off his idea of the food court. He asks for a nicer place, and he suggests Cherry Blossom, the Japanese restaurant he likes, while Stace wants to go to Big Lobster. They argue over restaurants and have a face-off till Stace suggests a buffet. They then bicker about whose car to take and decide to go in their own vehicles and meet at the restaurant.
At the buffet, Kade finds it nice to hang out with Stace as he isn’t the chatty type. He asks Stace why he wants to befriend him so much, to which Stace responds that he finds him entertaining when annoyed. Kade confides how they are complete opposites, with him being anti-social and how, despite being so social, Stace doesn’t have any friends. He finds this hard to believe, and Stace explains how he is into his career to build relationships. Stace likes hard work, and seeing how hard it is to befriend Kade made him want to try. Once done with lunch, they argue over who should pay, and the cashier thinks of them as a cute couple.
At work, Kade gets a text from Ethan asking about work. Kade is about to complain about his Manager and Coworker but realizes they aren’t so bad after all. Down to Earth Chapter 43 ends with Kade responding with ‘Yeah…Not a bad day.’
Chapter 44: Confessions
In Down to Earth Chapter 44, Kade finds out that his taste in music is the same as his coworkers’. They chat about their favourite artists and songs, which he finds pleasant. Back home, Ethan, now a frequent visitor, is surprised that he actually had a good day at work. Zaida talks about her day of video gaming and napping till he returns, which envies Ethan. Ethan brags about a cute girl in his class talking to him, but Kade and her find it adorable and pleasant, rebuffing his attempt to boast. Ethan subtly shifts the topic to Kade and Zaida dating, which he immediately dismisses. At that moment, she asks him to try her new favourite milkshake flavour. He likes it and offers his drink to her while Ethan watches over them knowingly. He then addresses the task at hand: teaching Zaida.
While Zay studies, Ethan asks about Kade’s coworker, whose name Kade has trouble remembering but brushes it off. He asks Ethan about his new crush and Ethan goes about how she has the ‘softest voice’ and ‘kindest personality’ but is cut off by Kade who regrets asking.
In the next scene, Ethan leaves, and it’s just Kade and Zay again. He is texting on his phone, and when she inquires, he says that his manager is asking to join him for lunch again. Disturbed, she confesses for quite a while how happy she is yet a bit envious of Kade. Down to Earth Chapter 44 concludes with Zaida’s confession.
